UT only looks at the reading and math scores of the ACT?

I read up on how they calculate the Academic Index; do they not consider the english or science parts?

No, UT does not consider the reading portion of the ACT, nor do they consider the science portion. For purposes of calculating AI, the math score and combined english/writing score are used.

And for the SAT they would only consider the CR and Math parts?

And do they not take the composite score (of either SAT or ACT) into consideration at all?

When I applied, UT had all 3 sections of the SAT listed on the ‘MyStatus’ under ‘Test Scores’. I’m not sure if they use only two but it seemed as thought they used all 3. Not sure about this one though (I like to think they used all three sections because W was my highest score!).

If UT only cares about English/writing and math for the ACT and didn’t care about the composite, I could theoretically study only for the two sections that count and blow off the other two sections, right?

Hmmmm someone’s gotta know if they care about the composite or not!

As stated, the AI uses only the math and english/writing sections for purposes of calculating your hypothetical freshman gpa.

Yes, theoretically you could “blow off” the reading and science sections, but the reading section is not much different than what you would do in AP English Language/Literature multiple choice anyway, and the science section is pretty much interpreting graphs. So, why not put your best effort into the entirety of the test? I would doubt anyone in Admissions would advocate that your total score does not have some bearing on their overall decision as they report composite scores in their yearly reports–not parts of the tests.

You have started numerous threads recently. Obviously, you’re anxious about getting into UT, but chill a little and try not to obsess so much. Everything usually works out for the best.
