@parentofsix Check the portal. I received my email an hour or so after my admission through the portal.
@Mills6 Same for my daughter. She was accepted to her 2nd choice 2weeks after applying, scholarships offered, her major and college of choice also. She is now applying to schools overseas, yikes! Please, UT I want to keep my daughter in the country!
@crystx1 I am wondering the same thing. Has anyone heard about the 40 acres scholarship? I’m admitted (as of the most recent Friday wave) and am really anxious to hear back about scholarship offers.
So I’m pretty sure UT only accepts 2 rec letters and when I checked my documents section in my portal the other day it appears my counselor sent all 4. Will they randomly pick 2 of them to read? Could this negatively affect my chances?
@lukaaa there is no limit on rec letters - don’t worry about an extra letter in your file
@Mills6 I understand why you feel the way you do, but don’t give up hope. My son was accepted to engineering with similar stats - and much like your D, no science camps, robotics team etc. He played lacrosse, worked, part time, went to camp for a month every summer, spent time with grandparents and just did kid stuff. Hang in there and good luck.
“We are making good progress on decisions and will deliver admission offers (or deferral notifications) to all priority applicants no later than Feb. 1. All fall 2019 decisions will be made and delivered no later than Mar. 1.”
The way I read this (and the way I want this to actually mean) is no rejections until after Feb 1st and maybe not until after or around March 1st. Has anyone read last years thread or been through it themselves and can tell us when Rejections came out last year? I’m thinking those that got their applications in before Nov 1st will either get Accepted or Deferred prior to Feb 1st. (Again, that’s also what I’m hoping it means.)
And to everyone upset about this process, we felt just as stressed waiting on known, well established and set March 15th and March 31st dates, as we did UT’s process 3 years ago. Knowing a date and time for a decision was still excruciatingly stressful. So those also waiting on schools like ND, UNC, Vandy, Georgetown etc getting any decisions like UT is gravy.
For those where UT is the Dream…yup, I’m with ya. We’ll get through this for good or bad. Hook’em. .
process needs to be changed for UT’s admission system. It’s just not right…
I truly think UT wants to see students invested in their school and community, so you don’t need robotics club or math club to get into engineering. However, they want to see if you invested in whatever activities you chose. Was the student only a member of a club or were they VP? Is your child a member of an athletic team or did they do something more on the team? So many kids list many clubs/activities on their resume, but it is just fluff, schools ant to see kids taking an active role. Hang in there everyone! UT engineering is tops and worth waiting for!!
@grlgotexas nah, essays were good…hoping for Plan 2 also actually so she spent a lot of time on them and writes pretty well. Four years in two sports and varsity in both, 175 hours community service, not tons of leadership but VP in a club, starter in sports, a few awards, etc., recommendations from teachers that really know her and like her…I think she will keep up with them after high school. Will say not much leadership-just not her strength though- which I am sure hurts her application.
It’s ok! Thanks for all of the kind encouragement. She will be fine either way, and it is too early to give up. I am just like many others…frustrated. They can’t let everyone in and there are so many great kids who are strong applicants it is tough for all! Good luck to everyone waiting still!
When is honor program decision going to come out? Any chance for our OOS to receive in-state tuition? Without any merit scholarship, it will be for hard for us to commit to UT.
Non auto admit, accepted into Cockrell for Electrical Engineering on 01/18/2019!!!
Student: high school does not rank, girl going into engineering
ACT: 32 composite, 35M, 27E, 33R, 31S
GPA: 4.1825/4.0
@ Mills6 well I’m sure if your d is not accepted to UT one of the higher ranked schools would take her anyday. somewhere like Carnegie Mellon or Cornell or MIT
Non auto admit, accepted into RTF at Moody College of Communication January 20th, 2019 at 11:01pm!! Hook 'em!
1st poster @cockatoo we will all assume that you actually got in on the Friday Jan 18th wave and only found out about at 11:01PM yesterday.
@Mills6, I am thinking since most of the acceptances have been sent out, your daughter may have been denied one of her majors, thinking P2 because she is a shoe in for engineering, (all schools want females in STEM). UT won’t send out denials before Feb 1. Or she got both, but you happen to be in the last batch of acceptances. Hoping for the latter, - UT or Texas A&M are great choices.
We have not completed FAFSA. Do you think that has any bearing on admittance?
For those thinking no notice means a denial, don’t despair just yet! My daughter is an in-state top 3% AA and still hasn’t heard anything. Totally possible she didn’t get her top major (CS), but we know there’s some kind of a yes coming… someday.
Totally echo everyone who finds this process frustrating!
No @jivey23, it shouldn’t. We didn’t file FAFSA yet because our EFC is higher than UT and for the schools where we would expect aid (like Rice), they aren’t due just yet.
My daughter was accepted in December and got Plan II acceptance last week (while we were at Disney World, talk about celebrating!)
Congratulations to your daughter!
