My third kid is applying for UT in this cycle and has not heard anything yet either. You will likely not get a rejection instead you will be offered the CAP program. My first two kids both got offered Cap but both later transferred to UT, one after a year and one after only one semester. My oldest daughter went on to UT medical school in Houston. My son moved to Austin, rushed a fraternity and lived in Callaway House just like many other UT freshman. He went to ACC and completed the 30 hours needed to transfer over the course of the summer and fall and transferred into UT for the spring semester of his freshman year. If you are not an automatic qualifier the acceptance rate is about 15%, if you transfer its over 40%. He will graduate on time this Spring and had the same college experience as every other UT kid. If my third kid does not get in she will consider doing the same thing. If your heart is set on going to Texas you should try it. A lot more people than you probably think get in to UT this way.
@kcsprop1 Did your students initially decline CAP and complete their alternate pathways independently?
@kcsprop1 I know my DD would accept PACE if offered (Austin Community College for 1 year and transfer directly into COLA) but what schools are currently part of the UT Austin CAP program? I’ve heard UT Dallas is not.
@TXDad56 here are the current participating schools for CAP. https://admissions.utexas.edu/enroll/cap/prospective-students/uta My daughter will have 25 eligible credits from her AP courses by the time she graduates in June so I’m not sure a program like CAP would be appropriate for her. Let’s hope that we don’t have to be discussing the pros and cons of this however within the next 10 days.
UTD is not a CAP school, no. UT-San Antonio is. And UT-Arlington, too.
@TXDad56, it looks like all of UT’s satellite campuses participate in CAP. You can find out more information at the following hyperlink: https://admissions.utexas.edu/enroll/cap/prospective-students/utpb
BTW, I agree that PACE is an extremely attractive option. UT’s website describe PACE as follows: “PACE participants spend their freshman year on the Forty Acres part-time, taking one class per semester at the university while completing the majority of their coursework at nearby Austin Community College (ACC) – Rio Grande.” You can find out more info about PACE here: https://admissions.utexas.edu/enroll/pace
Between the two, I think PACE is by far the preferable option as the student will actually spend their freshman year at UT, have the right to live in a UT dorm, purchase a UT meal plan, and participate in all extracurricular activities open to UT students like joining campus organizations and attending UT sporting events. The only downside is the student taking most of their classes at ACC, which isn’t much of a downside since they are paying junior college tuition costs to help fulfill UT’s Core Curriculum. Unfortunately, UT is very vague about eligibility for PACE.
@TXlove with that many potential AP credits someone might be able to transfer over after their first semester?! Let’s all hope it doesn’t come to that.
My DS would do PACE in a second! He’s waiting on COLA Psychology. Great scores and GPA, AP classes and dual enrollment, competitive high school top 15%, great EC but limited leadership and community work. Here’s to hoping this will be an option.
@jivey23, my son was recently admitted to McCombs on Friday with a 15% rank. His app sounds very similar to your daughter’s with the exception of a lot of demonstrated leadership experiences. Other than that, they compare favorably and so I think your daughter should have a great chance for COLA. In regards to PACE, yes it is an excellent enrollment option. Again, UT is very secretive in identifying the criteria for eligibility for PACE which kind of makes it a mystery as to how they make the decision on who gets the PACE offers.
Have any rejections been sent out yet? I am top 15% of my class and have not heard back yet… hoping I still have a chance
No rejections will come out until 1/31-2/1 for priority registrants and 3/1 for non-priority. There will be outright rejections, CAP offers and PACE offers on those dates along with the final acceptances.
Will there be another wave of acceptances before 1/31?
your guess is as good as any. I suspect there will be additional honors acceptances this week related to the acceptances this past week. I would bet there will be another round of acceptances this coming Friday the 25th and then one final priority acceptance round on 1/31-2/1 after that, for non-priority, I have no clue.
@cockatoo congratulations on the acceptance! Would you mind sharing your stats? Thanks!
My kids did not do the CAP program. One went to Clemson for a year and the other went to ACC Rio Grande Campus which is just a few blocks away from the UT campus. The CAP program is great but you have to attend another UT campus. I think UTSA, UT Arlington and UT Tyler all participate. PACE offers are different in that you are given a guarantee of admission if you meet the GPA requirements. There are a lot of kids who just go to ACC and then transfer in as sophomores. The average accepted transfer GPA is 3.75.
Does anyone know when Dean’s Scholars decisions will be released? Has anyone heard yet? Got an acceptance to CNS in Friday’s wave, so very happy! Just wondering the timing for Dean’s Scholars now. Thanks for any insights.
does anyone know if there will be another wave before 2/1?? also how many acceptances are left to go out??
@FructusSum What was your major in COLA?
@vdrhancock International Relations and Global Studies.
I haven’t seen anything about School of Education… has anyone been accepted?
