University of Texas at Austin Class of 2023 Admissions

@CautiousOptimist my blood is boiling for you. How stupid can they be? Clearly expecting your kid to go to a better school and too cowardly to risk it. Shame on them.

No, UT doesn’t care about legacy even a little bit. Third generation with a sibling there now and still capped…with that 36, I might add.

@AgTchMom Yes, I am thinking TAMU is awesome right now too!

HI so I turned in my application in 09/19 and my app is under review at this time

Class rank - 202/634 (31%)
GPA - 4.21/5 W 3.44/3 UW
SAT - 1330

I have done DECA for all four years, Marching Band for four years (I was section leader junior and senior year) , NHS for one year, AVID Tutor, and have 210+ volunteer hours. I wrote a really nice essay and my grades has been improving throughout my high school years. My teachers wrote me a nice LOR and I also submitted a separate resume. I am applying to Art and entertainment technology as my first major and advertising as my second major. I know that my chances for full admission are very slim and I was wondering if I can get into the PACE program. Also I am a little confused because I was kind of expecting that I would get CAPed but I haven’t heard anything from UT. Is there a different time that the CAP decisions roll out?

Thanks

Valedictorian DD CAPPED… mistake??? What to do next?

@Kcraws I’m so sorry to hear. Email and call their office ASAP.

that is outrageous. What majors? @cautiousoptimism

@Kcraws IS or OOS? how big was the high school? what major?

@Kraws How is that even possible? I thought that top 6% would have to be at the very least admitted to COLA.

@kansha, what a lot of people don’t realize is that the UT “Top 6%” is capped at 75% of the enrollment class. Once UT reaches that threshold, holistic admissions kicks in, even if you’re in the coveted top 6%. Another thing that seems to get missed frequently are the supporting requirements for automatic admissions under the Texas Administrative Code for admissions (requirements to be eligible for the Top 10% rule, in addition to just being in the top 10% of your class based on GPA).

UT admissions definitely a mystery with so many great students getting CAP, but can’t understand why SAT scores of 1030 are also getting a CAP offer.

Small in state private school, 1/101, SAT 1510, GPA 4.5. Didn’t apply early. Business major.

@UTWannabe23 - that post above was supposed to be a reply to you re: CAPPED DD. Sorry.

@nomatter can you cite a reference for the first claim? I totally agree with you about the supporting docs/additional parameters (although I believe a decent test score suffices even if they don’t graduate with the right diploma plan). But I’ve geeked out over these admission policies for a good 2 years now and I don’t recall seeing any evidence that they “run out” of auto admit spots. Because they don’t know how many they have filled until they hear back from everyone whether they accept their admission offer or not. So my understanding was that they use their enrollment management algorithms to predict yield and shoot for 75%.

What is URM? And, we are with you, CAP’ed also, but my child had already hit the submit button for TAMU! I have to say (selfishly, sorry), it did feel good that he took the action to do this. So amny friends are posting today about their child’s selections, that are not UT. I am thinking many were waiting for this day to finalize their choice. Grateful we have an option that is honestly a better fit (coming from a Longhorn!).

Congrats to everyone who was admitted. It is a huge accomplishment. My daughter was COLA English applicant and was not offered admission. She was non auto admit with a 33 ACT (a 36/35 on English/Reading sections and 12 on writing), 3 5s on AP tests. Her high school doesn’t rank outside the top 10% but her estimated rank w available info on high schools academic profile should have been around 12%. She had medium to strong EC and essays were at least average. She applied Oct 15. It’s really really hard to accept such an unexpected outcome and know you will never know what happened. She is going to move on and attend TAMU. My wife and I were UT grads and i probably hired 200 UT McCombs grads during my career. In life sometimes what seems like the biggest setback puts you on the path you belong on. Best of luck to everyone.

did decisions come out today for those who applied before nov. 1?

havent heard anything as an oos student, starting to beleive I’m rejected especially because I’ve applied to computer science

@ohiokid22 same here but for Business. We’ll find out sooner or later.

@catdog222 @ohiokid22 we are OOS as well and have pretty much given up all hope as well. It’s seems UT’s admission standards are at unprecedented levels. Unfortunate but the odds at this point are highly stacked against us. We are waiting on RTF Moody still.

@catdog222 @ohiokid22 @Bayeriffic We are also OOS and waiting on Moody CSD. Based on all the posts we’d be mind blown if she got in. Focusing on Ohio State and other schools now. We fully embrace that whatever happens was meant to be. Good luck to all of us still holding on for 2/1!
