Is it worth it to do the CAP program? Native Austinite— mostly concerned about the financial aspects. If I participated in CAP, I’d most likely go to UTSA for one year before going to UT and doing the “real deal”. However, I wanted to be in McCombs and they only assure admission to liberal arts- so should I risk it? I feel so lost! If CAPed, do they offer financial aid at the other uni you attend for the one year? I know if I applied to UTSA I’d get some money (1330 SAT, 4.6WGPA).
@okkkkk can i ask you for some stats? Are you automatic? GPA, rank, SAT/ACT, EC’s, recommendations, essays.
What do you think set you apart from other applicants? Thanks and congrats!
If I am OOS and applied priority but haven’t heard anything yet should I just assume its a denial? I have 33 ACT 4.58 GPA 4.0 unweighted. High commitment ECs too.
Denied from CS. Auto admit w/ 3.9 UW at competitive high school. 35 ACT 800 Math 2, strongest class rigor with mostly 5’s and 2 4’s on AP exams. Competed in CS competitions, CS independent projects, other academic competitions w/ National Placings, other ec’s/volunteering. I have the option of choosing from another major but probably not worth it. Oh well hopefully something goes good for me in March.
uber competitive HS. ranked 61 out of 784 with a 5.33.
Does anyone know statistics on transferring from ACC if you choose to forgo the CAP program? CAP would be an auto admit into the liberal arts, with a 3.2, but ACC obviously wouldn’t. We are willing to do the CAP, but would prefer to have our son get the “UT experience” by living in Austin and in an off campus dorm, but then there is a gamble if he’ll get in from ACC. Just trying to figure out how big that gamble might be?
Son accepted into Cockerel School of Engineering but didn’t get his 1st or 2nd choice (Chemical, Aerospace Engineering) but instead got Accepted into Petroleum Engineering? Anyone get accepted into their chosen school but not their chosen Major? Anyone know if there is a future option to transfer? Top 3%, (class of 1440)
SAT 1400. (790 math) Varsity Sports plus other clubs, community service
Puzzled by UT’s admission process. Kid accepted as IS AA but denied both major choices. Shocked and disappointed as it is like straight rejection.
36 ACT/1600 SAT/SAT 2 Math 800 Chem 800 WH 800/4.0/15 APs all 5 including all those most difficulty ones (<10% scored with 5)/Major EC accomplishments. All As and top 5 out of more than 700 with 4-yr EC courses.
Im OOS too, have not heard. Assuming it’s not good considering 80% of the class is filled
Did I correctly read that the OOS acceptance rate is 8.4%? Or am I mistaken?
4.74/5.0 weighted GPA, 45/698 rank 6.4%, 1500 SAT, 760 Bio, 710 Math 2, a lot of volunteering, decent essays and recs. Applied for business and econ and got capped. I didn’t expect to get into business but I thought I had a chance for my second choice
Has a single person received a true rejection at this point?
TAMU is awesome to the one who said that they were now headed there with a scholarship. Gig 'em!

Daughter got into UT Nursing and is deciding between UT Nursing and Texas Tech nursing right now.
OOS Mechanical Engr. Still waiting. Hope they don’t send out rejections at the end similar to the Coast Guard Academy my son applied a few years ago. Next week is THE week :(.
The 8 percent refers to how many students in the student body are from OOS. I was told that the OOS acceptance rate last year was about 20 percent vs the overall acceptance rate of just under 40 percent. UT has become a hot school to apply to from OOS so it could be lower this year.
Thanks @NJMom33. I hope we can get that rate this year. My student will be applying next year, also from NJ.
Does legacy help at UT from your father??
Is there a group me?
@collegemomjam I was told Legacy does not matter. Too many alumni… good luck!
