Happy New Year! Hope this year fulfills the noble desires of everyone.
Can’t wait for the waves and wavelets to resume!
My DS20 received his notification of acceptance on Dec 29. Cockrell School of Engineering. Can’t believe that the notification was sent over the Christmas break, I guess the admissions office is hard at work, even during the winter break.
Congratulations @jinhui ! What an awesome surprise!
I also want to say that we are OOS, international (US citizens living abroad). Application submitted the end of October.
Most acceptances at Cockrell so far have been OOS. I wonder when they would announce in-state.
@EraseEgo Should start late next week. My guess is the following 2 weeks should be the brunt of acceptances, followed by CAP.
Sorry, I have been off of the boards lately. I don’t know about UTSA, but I would rank the rest of the schools in that order. Just off the cuff, I would guess that Texas Tech is between UTD and UTA, but that is pure speculation.
Received mail from UT Permian Basin today. Wondering if this means application was placed in the capped pile?

Based on US News 2020 rankings, for Engineering:
UT (#11), TAMU (#15), Rice (#20), UTD (#75), UH (#83), Texas Tech (#93),
SMU (#108), Baylor and UTA (#120), UTEP (#153), UTSA (#170), TAMU-Kingsville and UNT (#185)
- everybody else below that are lump into one group.
When can we expect Honors decisions to start rolling out again? Any pointers from last year? Thx!
@2024CuriousDad Last year, I recall a boom of honors decisions that came out in the February to March timeframe. It’ll be interesting to see how the decisions come out this year. There seems to be more (reported) small batches of honors acceptances earlier than we saw last cycle. But, I’m guessing the bulk will be in Feb to March.
At any rate, I’m getting excited for everyone. The big waves are coming soon!
This is our first time through this process; does UT Austin typically release o Fridays? Will that likely start next week through January?
Does anyone know when financial aid packages are typically released for admitted students?
Thank you for the informative post on Engg rankings of TX colleges. Didn’t know UH Engg is better than TTU and UTSA. I thought UH was at the bottom of the pile. Good to know.
@ssshen So far, decisions have been coming pretty much M-F. Last year, there was a huge spike in reported decisions during the 2nd & 3rd weeks in January. Perhaps that will be the case this year too (hoping so!).
But, as far as which days of the week, I can tell you that my kid got an admission on a Monday, admitted to 1st choice major on a Tuesday (I think), and admitted to honors on a Thursday, between September and November, so that may change as the larger batched releases begin.
Thank you for the information! @nomatter
UH seems to rise recently. They are now a tier 1 school. The other three in tx are ut, tamu and rice. So that is a significant recognition. In case you’re not aware, they offer tier 1 scholarship which is full ride with stipend. As a whole, they now offer med, pharm, nursing, optometry and law (which is highly ranked in the nation). Although some campuses are located in some shady areas, as a whole, imo this school has quite a bit to offer. They also have locations everywhere which makes it easy for the students to take classes and work.
@mikeinsugarland
If I remember correctly, was utd 65ish last year? I know that tamu was tied with ucla for 15 last year. This year ucla is 16. I wonder what they use to rank.
Hi There - My OOS daughter applied to Moody College. Has anyone seen decisions come back yet for this college at UTAustin? Do they notify in-state before OOS? Or, vice-versa? Also wondering the space allotment for this college for OOS students. Any help or insight would be appreciated. This is my DD’s first choice school. Happy New Year everyone!
@icedmachiato What classification standard are you using to determine what “tier” of university Texas institutions are…?
