University of Texas at Austin Class of 2024 Admissions / Preparation

@catherinemc There have been several OOS Moody acceptances posted on this thread or the other “UT Austin OOS Notification” thread. My OOS daughter heard December 13th and then received Honors college notification about a week later. There were several in-state Moody acceptances before that. No idea about OOS space allotment for Moody.

Curious if there have been any McCombs, OOS, non-BHP, admissions yet?

@starboard17 yes there have re McCombs OOS, i haven’t heard but a friend has gotten in.

there have been moody acceptances on this board. I have no insight whatsoever. My daughter is also waiting on Moody OOS. What major did your child apply for? Do you want to share stats and when application was submitted?

For auto admits that dont get their first choice major and have to pick a COLA major, when is the deadline to pick their COLA major? We had an applicant not get her first choice major a few years ago but I cant remember the deadline to pick new major… Trying to determine when all AAs will be finalized to accept or reject their new majors

@UpstateSCmom and @catherinemc My daughter was accepted into Moody OOS in December.

Hello, does anyone know how competitive the neuroscience major or anything of CNS acceptances? Thank you

@imreallytired17 - Based in my daughter’s experience (she’s a junior at UT), I tend to think that Biology, Biochemistry & Neuroscience are regarded as a cluster, and it is quite easy admitted students to switch within this cluster. My daughter could easily switch from Biochem to Neuro. In terms of competitiveness, looks like AAs comprise 67% of admitted CNSs. And the Biology cluster is half the CNS class. Good luck! My entering freshman son is an AA and has been accepted into his Physics major.

ds (sat 1070, act 23, rank 112/367) just got admitted to chemical engineering!! Woot woot and hook em  grandpa (first ex husbands stepfather) is especially excited because ds will be staying at the hall that is dedicated in his name.

@yellow87 Congratulations! On a Monday night - interesting…they really got right back to work today!

@icedmachiato UTD undergrad engineering was #80 last year so they rose 5 slots to #75 this year. The #65 ranking you mentioned was for their grad engineering school. My son attended UTD last year. In my book, it is a good engineering school - facilities are 1st class, the teachers and staffs seemed to really care, dorm is newer and better than those at UT & TAMU and the environment is like a private university - quiet, safe, & conducive to learning. The only drawback I see (in some’s minds) is the lack of Division I sports like football, basketball, etc…

As such, it doesn’t has the name recognition like UT or TAMU - even UH or Texas Tech - so lots of parents/students doesn’t give it a consideration. Like Austin, the area around of Richardson, Plano, Dallas and now Frisco is full of technology and telecom companies and offered great internship opportunities - which lead to a great job market once they graduated.

With the type of merit scholarships they gave out for those in top 10% - with great scores in the 1450-1550 SAT or 33-35 ACT, you will be doing yourself a disservice if you don’t even apply.

@nomatter I think he meant Tier 1 schools are based on Carnegie Foundation classifications. It is simply “category of a university with “very high research activity”. This is its highest level and is equated with being a Tier One research institution."

@yellow87 That’s very funny … but not believable …

UTD was originally started up by Engineers at Texas Instruments who were dissatisfied with the number/quality of engineers in the area. UTD has always specifically existed to produce high-quality engineers.

For those who have heard about their acceptance to Moody, were you in-state applicants?

@Daphne921 I think I counted about 3-4 OOS Moody acceptances mentioned in this thread, I’m sure many in state as well but don’t specifically recall.

I am curious, how long does it take to get a decision once it says, “Your application for admission is in review.” Also, do engineering applicants have to go through a second round of application review like at TAMU?

@ash980123 There’s no set time frame to give you for the amount of time UT takes to move an app through the stages of review. It varies by candidate. IF you submitted your app by the priority deadline, you’ll have a decision or a deferral by February 1st. Just for reference, some applicants submitted apps on 8/1/19, and have been in review since. Some submitted on 12/1/19, and already have a decision… and every scenario in between.

UT does a holistic review for all majors. If you’re not an auto admit, your full holistic review will be with consideration for your requested first choice major. Unlike TAMU, full holistic review applicants aren’t admitted to the university first, then considered for their major. So, the answers depends on the type of applicant that you are. If you’re an auto admit, then yes… you’ll go through a second round of consideration for engineering. If you’re a full holistic review applicant, your consideration for engineering will be a part of your admissions review.

Is the first major (by no. of acceptances) wave expected this Friday? I was browsing through reddit postings for last year and noticed that there were a lot of postings about acceptance around that time.

@Daphne921 D accepted to Moody before holiday break, in-state, non auto-admit.
