@saltypretzel When did they hear?
Cockrell found out Dec. 19. Kinesiology friend was the week before Dec. 19 I don’t remember the exact date.
Daughter still waiting to hear on major. Auto admit. Applied priority. Majors #1 Architecture/ArchEng
2 Architectural engineering..
Some acceptances and denials from her high school here in Texas already heard on Monday’s wave.
@ildro, wow, she wants to be a double major? That is really tough. I was an Arch E major. I knew of only one person who managed both.
@MaineLonghorn well she originally only wanted Architectural Eng, with #2 Civil, but then last minute decided to switch and attempt the double major. After the major change request was approved, we found out that last year only around 100 got that option. So she really lowered her odds.
Hearing stories of kids being offered a spot in Civil Engineering makes me believe that’s one major rhat mat still have spaces to offer to auto admit kids.
Arch E is definitely one of the hardest engineering majors to get into.
My dad was an Arch E professor at UT from 1965-2016.
@123vca @astrodreamsmom Do you have a list of the COLA majors that were offered?
My daughter was AA and was rejected for Mechanical Engineering and Aerospace. Stats: top 5%, SAT 1450, NASA HAS, lots of volunteer hours, no leadership (maybe that was the problem?). She was only offered a selection of COLA majors, nothing with math or science. She would consider Physics, and with hindsight should have made that her second choice. She thinks she will appeal, but otherwise will go to Texas A&M engineering.
Any in state cns admits?
Similar stats & story as my niece! I will be curious how your daughter plans to appeal, as my DN will do the same. FYI… we were told that she still needed to choose one of the major options that were sent by admissions. We were advised to choose general studies while appealing, and that any major selected would be non-binding.
123vca, thank you for that information. It’s sort of crazy that the engineering department has little (no?) say in the admissions process.
Curious if anyone has gotten into Architecture? If so, would you mind sharing stats, IS/OOS, ethnicity, etc - thanks!
I was told that the internal transfer would get some advantage over other transfers, but still very competitive. One is required to get certain GPA and of course it’s hard to maintain/achieve at ut. In any case, I agree with you. The risk is so high. A safer route would be accepting admission at the next down university on the list, do well there and apply next year or two. If denied, still can finish up and graduate with the major s/he wants/is interested in.
In my opinion, it’s bizarre to auto admit and then offer some zero to minimal related major. I hope as parents we can help kids choose the right paths instead of just going for the name. There are many more same/better options out there. Some of these rejected kids could have been accepted into many wonderful programs.
I haven’t seen many admissions into Moody. Am I missing them or do those just come out later? Sorry if that’s a dumb question. Just seems to be mostly engineering, business, etc.
Wave today or tomorrow
Still haven’t gotten any news yet, OOS MD 1480 SAT 760 Math, 720 Very worried!!
Applied first choice chemical engineering, second choice chemistry
Hi! I got accepted into Architectural Engineering around December 19th. How is the job market for that degree? Out of worry, I did some research and it didn’t look too great. So if I did go to UT would it be smarter for me to try to internally transfer to Civil, (or double major?)
I am really passionate about the subject of Architectural Engineering, by all means I would love to major in that, I just want to be able to find a job immediately after my undergrad.
I have a random question, a friend of mine was rejected by her major. She got stuck in undergrad, can she submit an appeal to get into a real major?
So it sounds like AA who did not get major choice have until January 20 to choose a new major or forfeit a choice?
Does anyone have an idea if there will be an OOS wave tomorrow? Waiting to here back from McCombs and would like to know as soon as possible.
