So, is the School of Engineering full then if AA are not getting their major?
AA does not mean one is automatic to any particular college. I suppose there were more stellar applications than my niece’s for engineering, and by the time they finished reviewing her, CS was full.
Sure. SAT 1040 and ACT was a 21. HS rank is 22/548 . GPA: On a 4.0 scale it is a 3.9 . Now we are thinking she will attend TAMU since she will have a better chance getting into BSN there versus internally transferring at UT Austin. We’re going to follow the major and not the school. Too risky to attend UT Austin undeclared and BSN major is very competitive to internally transfer there.
@123vca TAMU engineering is a great and the way to go … It is a real risk of NOT being able to transfer to engineering at UT after a year. Remember by the time she apply for transfer internally, she is again competing with that year incoming freshmen and transfers all over again …
I Agree! TAMU for engineering if she doesn’t win her appeal. She was told that she should accept undeclared, non binding, because she has to select a major by the 20th. Supposedly, undeclared spots fill quickly. She has until March 15th to submit an appeal. I’m guessing she would have better luck appealing the decision of her second choice, CNS.
Are there any other international applicants still waiting for their decisions? I applied before the November 1st deadline.
No. Auto Admits are only guaranteed admission into the UT Austin if they’re in the top 6% of their class, and meet the State’s Uniform graduation requirements, the ‘college readiness’ standards, and achieve the Foundation+ or Distinguished level of achievement. All applicants go through a holistic review for major. AAs are not guaranteed their first or second choice.
I have heard (but can not verify) that UT fills about 85% of the spots for its most competitive majors with AAs. The last 15% is filled with non-AAs and OOS.
Congrats to all who have gotten into UT so far. For those Engineer Apps pondering those non 1st/2nd choice options, you might consider Physics. If it’s still open, it makes for a great engineering resume, if UT is your goal. As for TAMU, it is certainly a 1-B option. Super strong for engineering and should not be considered a fall back school, in the least if you can go right into engineering.
@123vca. My kids are accepted into both UT and TAMU engineering. Initially, we are all for UT. However, we are now leaning towards TAMU, scholarship currently awarded is one factor and the other is their alumni network is very strong (my sons describe A&M is like a “cult”). Especially given that UT and TAMU are pretty comparable academically in engineering – I think either college will be great for engineering kids. Let us know how her appeals goes and her decision. Good luck.
My niece is waiting to hear back from TAMU financial aid office. Good scholarship would be very important to her. Fingers crossed!??
Wave today?
When you mention scholarship, are you stating the calculation based on FAFSA? UT will only send their scholarship award once you are accepted, so not sure how some are already comparing.
I believe Asian Americans prefer UT to A&M
I feel like everyone has already heard back. Do people get accepted on Jan 31 or is everyone that got in already notified? Since I haven’t heard yet (McCombs) is it likely I am not admitted? This may be a stupid question lol.
Does anyone know if the Engineering school is full? We have not received any notice at all whatsoever.
When will OOS start getting replies?
@rola23 my OOS friend got into Cockrell and my other OOS friend got into kinesiology
I was speaking of A&M scholarships…academically as well as FAFSA. She was an AA to both schools, and accepted to TAMU engineering.
with ACT 22 Hmmm probably not
