I should add my daughter is top 20%, 4.5 GPA, 24 ACT, 1190 SAT, in state, in several clubs, cheer and does a lot of volunteering.

Unfortunately, my son got CAP this evening at 8:53pm. CAP schools choices are UT Arlington and UT San Antonio.
Here is his stats again for future reference.
When did you apply: submitted 11/25.
Class Rank: 57/813 (top 7%)
SAT (with Sub Scores): 1530 / 800 Math 730 Writing
ACT (with Sub Scores): 33
In-state
Applied to Computer Science (CS)
He is accepted into Texas A&M engineering though so we will wait for March decisions from other OOS universities.
Good luck everyone …
Rejected.
My son was capped for engineering. In state non ranking small school, only #1 was top 6%
1570 SAT
3.8 UW GPA
National Merit Semifinalist
EC’s
2 Varsity sports
President Robotics Club
Not sure what else they could have wanted
My son is in the same situation but he will most likely accept TAMU’s offer. CAP is a transfer program that once you completed 30 hours at a system school (after a year), you are only guaranteed transfer into UT as a College of Liberal Arts (COLA) major. You still has to apply into engineering or computer science all over again.
There is a high chance that he won’t be accepted unless he get like a 3.8-4.0 GPA at the CAP school. IMHO, it is very risky compare to TAMU when you are already accepted into engineering. Both school are excellent engineering schools with UT ranked #11 and TAMU not far behind at #15.
In our case, we will wait until March to see what are the decisions of OOS universities he has applied to.
Good luck …
My daughter was accepted today to UT-Austin. OOS, but will get in state with a military dad (Home of Record is TX). Biology, entry level (will be doing option 3, Marine and Freshwater Science)
ACT 31, but I am pretty sure TX is like A&M and only looks at English and Math (so 33)
GPA, W - 3.973, but our school does a wacky + - calculation.
6 AP classes and a lot of honors
4 year varsity/letter swim, Founder/President of the marine biology club, NHS, NEHS, NSHS
Leadership camp at College of William and Mary
2 week marine biology expedition to the BVI summer between Jr/Sr year
Swim coach for 10th, 11th 12th grade and summers
Won Coaches’ Award freshman year, PVS Scholar Athlete, High School Scholar Athlete 9th, 10th, 11th (we are in the middle of swim season)
Various volunteer hours
District doesn’t rank, but per A&M top 25%
Very competitive school/district
Essays were good, but only because she is a good writer. We made her apply to UT and A&M because she hadn’t gotten accepted to her #1 yet. She applied on Dec. 1.
Hook: Military kid that homeschooled for 8 years and went to school in high school. Had some ups and some downs, but learned from it all and is ready to tackle college.

This will really sting for a while, as for 4 family member have attended. Whole top 6% rule really affects admissions. Had classmate with 29 act (26 math) with rank of 30% get accepted into Aerospace engineering, which is very confusing. Unfortunate, but hopefully something good comes out of it.
Rejected OOS for CS with 1580 SAT and 42/45 IB. Got into GTech and Mich early, so I’m not too unhappy.
Being capped with a 3.98 GPA and 34 ACT and a “classmate with 29 act (26 math) with rank of 30% get accepted into Aerospace engineering” is a stunner. Not top 6% related. Aren’t biomedical and CS the hardest majors?
I wasn’t trying to say that. I was saying that as a whole, the 6% makes admission so much harder
Accepted Plan II Honors and Cockrell Engineering!! I was accepted to engineering on Wednesday and I just got my honors decision, really surprised because I’m OOS and I applied regular decision
Stats:
32 act
97 GPA
IB diploma candidate
Main ECs: FIRST Robotics (chairman’s, regional winners), Girl Up (started a business to fundraise for UN programs, organized events, received an international award), and lots of stuff within the arts (dance, literary magazine, etc).
Good luck to everyone!!
Just crazy. DDs classmates capped. 2 McCombs, Nat Sci and COLA. One got into top 20 OOS private university and attending there.
Rejected
OOS
1360 SAT
4.25 GPA
small private school - does not rank
TONS of ECs/prestigious awards
College of Education (Kinesiology)
I’ve got to say I’m pretty disappointed, I have always heard that COE is the easiest to get into.
