is there a big difference between being in ut’s engineering honors program vs majoring in engineering but not being in the honors program?
Hey, have any health and science scholars applicants received their decision about honours yet?
Son’s application still says in review, but it does say we met priority admission date…are we going to find out tonight???
@hornsup or they may defer him.
My dd’s has been deferred until 3/1.
I think “defer” might be an improper term to use at this point.
What we are seeing this year is no different that what has happened in recent years.
DD is applying for a major that requires audition and they were told that no one would hear before mid-Feb. DD met the priority deadline. I think admissions is overwhelmed and some of the schools/majors have not delivered decisions.
Fridays tend to be days that admissions decisions are rolled out. The text of today’s update was clumsy at best and misleading at worst.
Got into moody honors!
@boilerhorn that is the terminology that UT is using. The fine arts department is very different than the rest of the school. They never release early because they have to complete auditions and review portfolios. That is a very time consuming process.
With the exception of fine arts (and maybe engineering) the departments have absolutely no say in who gains admissions. The admissions committee makes those decisions. That’s why it’s possible to get an interview for the business honors program, meaning that McCombs sees you as a highly qualified applicant, and still not get into the program at all.
My S17 got denied to UT Austin . Just an FYI his stats were as below
Stats:-
OOS candidate ( NJ )
ACT 35.25 (Composite 35)
SAT II Math :- 800
SAT II Physics :- 790
UW GPA:- 4.0
Top STEM School in country
NMF Finalist
600+hrs volunteering
decent EC’s Member of Finance club that reached Fed Reserve semi finalist in Fed Challenge
TSA finalist represented state
A bit disappointed, but , life goes on. Just publishing these stats for OOS students there to compare & see where they stand for UT Austin
@RRRGSP listing what major was he applied to would be helpful information. Business, CS, and Engineering are more competitive than say Biology or Government. So the very same stats could have gotten someone in to one program but not another.
has anyone heard from the school or architecture with an admissions decision yet?
Thanks very much for your help
Architecture is still in Limbo.
This is not uncommon for SOA and COFA. Last year the bulk of SOA came out on Feb 3, I think.
applied nutrition major but still haven’t heard back yet…anyone knows why?
applied before 11/1 but ! am international
Priority Application deadlines and notification only apply to US Applicants. International applicants will be notified on or before March 1.
@cccrrystal - From everything I’ve read (several recent mentions in Reddit as well), some scholarship money is, for the most part, the only differentiating factor.
ohh i see
but i know some internationals got their results already…
I was accepted back in December but just got another email saying that I have an update in MyStatus. I went to check, back it doesn’t seem that anything new is there. I still haven’t gotten my decision on LAH or financial aid so I thought it might be that, but again, no new information was posted. Did anyone else receive this?
DS (Out of state) got rejected in Electrical and Comp Engineering
Anybody has any idea about appeal process? Does that have any reasonable chance? or is that wastage of time?
@calcuttaboy2002 historically, UT has indicated that less than 2% of all appeals are successful. Last year, there was an anecdotal perception (UT didn’t release any actual numbers for comparison) that more appeals were successful than might be typical. It’s not known if that perception included OOS and international candidates, or what majors were more successfully appealed than others.
Information on how to appeal can be found here: https://admissions.utexas.edu/apply/decisions/appeals
“An applicant for admission should submit an appeal only if there is new, significant and/or compelling information that was not previously provided at the point of application; disagreement with an applicant’s admissions decision, alone, is not a valid reason for submitting an appeal.”
So, your student will need to decide if they have something new and/or compelling that wasn’t submitted with the original app. Additionally, understand that odds were always very long for OOS applicants at UT Austin, because (by state statute), 90% of the seats have to be filled with Texas residents.
