University of Texas, Austin (Business School) - reputation?

Hey,
I'm an undergraduate student from Sydney, Australia and I recently applied and was selected to go on international exchange to the University of Texas for finance/business.

I just wanted to get a general feel for the reputation that UT has in America, and also how their business school ranks? I do hear they are big on college football and sports, plus they're pretty big party animals. Also, will it matter if I'm under 21 and not legally allowed to drink yet? (the legal age is 18 in Australia.. I'm not sure whether Americans generally abide to the 21 age rule?)

Is there anything I should be forewarned about before I head off to Austin?? I've only been to America once, but only to the touristy places like New York, LA, etc..

Thanks!!

I would say it’s pretty good. Isn’t it a little late now?

Texas was actually my 4th preference, and there is still time to reconsider whether it’s worthwhile going, etc.

So what about their general reputation as a university though??

Thanks :)

Does google work down there?

Advice-drinking is big in Austin as is live music, Mexican food and BBQ. All are excellent and they are pretty loose about ID. One of the best college towns/cities in the USA. UT is very good and so is the b school. But it’s very big too. Nobody will hold your hand there. And the dating scene is epic. People are fun and friendly. Very friendly.

^ Very true. My brother flunked out of UT and finished up at (now) Texas State U. Too much to do in Austin.

The McComb’s school of Business is fantastic… Just extremely selective (hardest program to get into at UT)

Thanks for your replies!!

Hey Avolin - not sure if you’re still debating things, but I’d suggest you check out [B</a> School.com - Business Schools & Online MBA Degrees](http://www.bschool.com) - loads of info about the best business schools. Hope that helps you.

Haha and on a completed unrelated note… are you Australian, or just an American that was in Sydney for awhile? Either way - welcome to the States! I lived over in Sydney for a year, near Tamarama and absolutely fell in love with the place, can’t wait to go back! :)

HOOK EM! Haha, and I’m pretty sure it’s got a good rep! At least at my school, when peolpe hear someone got into UT Business, they get all excited.

So yes, it has a pretty good rep:)

Oh wow - I’m super excited now!

@Aviney3: I’m Australian! Born and raised. I love Sydney too :p

UT - Austin has one of the best business schools in the country. The school is super fun. Austin is a great place. It’s a no brainer.
