Not sure what to do. They are all very different but I love all of them in different ways. Any advice opinions would be great. The one disadvantage for UT is that I am undecided in my major. I know they are all great schools academically so I'm trying to look at the other factors.
Texas- great city, music scene, good greek, sports, closer to home
UR- small, in an area I'll probably want to live, near a decent city, good greek, good financial aid, unique experience
Tulane- small, well known, new orleans, culture, music scene, diversity, unique experience
I think the biggest decision is probably between UR and UT because both Texas and Richmond will be cheaper with financial aid.
Please help me! Thanks in advance!

Tulane is very generous with financial aid. I didn’t get the impression Richmond was as generous but they too have a full tuition scholarship. There was much to attract me and D to Richmond, but Tulane has a more cosmopolitan feel and a great deal of school spirit at the same time. It’s more “grown up” than Richmond might ever be, and Tulane’s emphasis on community service was a very big attraction for us. We were impressed by both, but D didn’t even apply to Richmond because it was just too “small town” for her.

Richmond covers 100% of demonstrated financial need.
Tulane on average covers 93%.
Texas on average covers 66%.
YMMV.

At Texas, 26% of classes have 50 or more students. That’s a very large percentage, especially when you consider that big classes are likely to be concentrated at the introductory levels and in the most popular majors. According to the 2012-13 UT CDS, 425 course sections have 100+ students.

At Tulane, ~5% of classes have 50 or more students.
At Richmond, 0% of classes have 50 or more.

Tulane and Richmond are more truly national universities, drawing undergraduates from all over the country.

That link was really interesting. I put all of the colleges that I am considering into it.

Thanks, that was a really interesting website! It really put things into perspective because I do want to go to school with people from different places. I think I’ll probably choose UR if I get in, fingers crossed!

I don’t understand how you can get merit from richmond and not from tulane. tulane practically throws money at people they want, and if you were accepted at richmond tulane would probably want you.

I applied to both Richmond and Tulane, so I could help you with questions about those schools.

Why don’t you wait till you get your admissions decisions first. You may not have a problem in picking.

I was accepted to tulane back in November but Richmond has better need based aid. And yes @erin’sdad, but there’s nothing wrong with being prepared to make a decision. I’ll be happy no matter where I go. And really @survivorfan?? Which did you pick or would you pick? It’s a tough hhoice!

I am a senior who has not yet made up his mind. Richmond has really good programs for what I want, a great campus and community, and good enough sports. It also feels bigger than it is. I have not yet seen Tulane, but I am into the honors college. It has the advantage of a seemingly better location (in terms of proximity to the city) and better weather. The programs are also great for me and the sports are improving.

dunno, spiders might have fallen off the bubble, SF.

They must beat Rhode Island if they want a chance.

OP: what is the total cost of attendance, BEFORE loans, for each - so we can make a cost/value comparison.

well; Texas is about 23,000 Tulane- 60k Richmond- 50k. But I qualify for some financial aid and heard UR has great finaid.

I meant, cost after scholarships and before loans, not “sticker price”, which few people actually pay. :)

OP, it sounds like you haven’t run the net price calculators for each school. You must do this to have any idea what each school is likely to provide you in the way of support. Quit guessing. You don’t have to wait to read the FA packages if what you want to do is get a prospectus on where you should go before the packages arrive. The NPCs will give you an estimate of what each school will expect your family to pay. Saying you heard UR has great fin aid is about useless. And as for Tulane you should already know if they’re going to give you merit. They announce that with the acceptance letter.

I’ve done the calculators already, thank you. And no I did not receive merit from Tulane.

would you pls tell us what your EFC is minus the loans and work study so that we can help you to decide?
