University of Toronto - Mississauga Campus or University of Alberta?

Because I am trying to decide between the two.

I'm going to university for science so I would be taking the Chemical and Physical Sciences (Biochem) program at UofT - Mississauga campus and General Science (Biochem) at the University of Alberta.

The University of Toronto is ranked #1 for sciences and the University of Alberta is ranked #5 HOWEVER, I am assuming the reason why UofT is ranked #1 is because of their St. George campus, is this true?

And since I would be going to UofT - Miss. campus, does it make UofA more "prestigious" or better than UofT - Miss. ? (In terms of the school as a whole and sciences)

Thanks! :)

I got a master’s degree from U of T about 20 yrs ago, and there was no distinction between the 3 campuses. Even though most of my courses were at the St George campus, I had a couple classes out in Mississauga. I don’t think the degree indicates which campus. So unless things have changed significantly, take the UofT. I’m sure that even if most of your classes are in Mississauga, you could take a few classes at the St. George campus, so that you will be able to say that your degree is from the university, and not from just one of the campuses.

I agree with Schmaltz…also you could transfer to St. George after your freshman year. Toronto also has great advantages over Edmonton.

Okay thanks for feeback, and ivyleaguer, advantages such as?

I think he probably means the city of Toronto is a lot of fun and has good mass transit, and the university has a good reputation and name recognition in many countries. It’s also easy to get from Toronto to other major cities. And although Toronto winters are long and fairly harsh, they are probably tame compared to Edmonton winters.

Okay, but my goal is med school and I have heard that UofT in general kills your average, so would it be wise to attend UofA and keep a high GPA since med schools don’t care where you did you undergrad?
