University of Toronto or Penn State?

I need to decide between uoft and penn state and I’m having a very hard time. I’m an international student who will be living on campus (St. George- University College for uoft and University Park for Penn State). I’m looking to major in English/Journalism and/or Sociology. I want to go into journalism in the future (I think, not 100% sure) and I know penn state actually offers journalism as a major and has a decent program for it, but at the same time all the advice I’ve gotten from working (highly credible !!) journalists is to not bother majoring in journalism as an undergraduate student but rather at the graduate level. I’m a very chill person so I’m not a fan of highly stressful and competitive students (I don’t mind being in an academically competitive environment but I don’t like being around very competitive/sabotage-like students). I like socializing but I’m not too interested in greek life, although not opposed to it either. I like the sports culture at psu and the college town feel of the place, but I also really like that uoft has so much city life around it. I’m not really sure which place offers more internship and job opportunities but that’s also important to me. I like the weather (lol) of both places and they both have about the same number of incoming freshman students (at st. george and at UP). I’d just like to hear some opinions on what each university is like and what might better suit me since I’m pretty confused. Thanks

One is urban while the other is rural.

Both are big.

P.S. College football & Greek life are huge at PSU.

The University of Toronto is smack dab in the middle of a very attractive city. Toronto is probably cleaner and safer than any US city of the same size, but it is still a big city.

Relative to the population of the country that it is in, The U of Toronto is very large with a lot of incoming freshman. It is also very academically demanding. This implies that it will have relatively more students who are not academically up to the challenge.

If you are going into journalism, I would not take on any debt for undergrad if you can avoid it.

As an international, U of T will offer more internship and job opportunities. It is next to impossible to get a job as an international in the US. There is a fairly easy path in Canada for people who study at a Canadian educational institution.
