University of Toronto or UIUC for Chemistry??? HELP

Hi guys,

So i am admitted to U of T for its Mathematical and Physical Sciences and UIUC for its Chemistry Major. I am really struggling between choosing a school between the two. I want to focus on Chemistry in the future. I am a current senior in Shanghai, while I hold Canadian citizenship. So I do enjoy the domestic school fee at U of T.

I think an important factor that I considered is that U of T is a lot cheaper compared to UIUC. But I am also thinking that if UIUC might offer a stronger academic experience, as I do know that their graduate program for Chemistry is VERY strong.

Where do you think that there will be the most job opportunities after graduating with a chemistry degree at the university? That is something I really consider!

Looking forward to all of ur opinions :slight_smile:

U of T is ranked #24 for chemistry by QS World University rankings. UIUC is ranked #31. Overall Toronto is a stronger university.

I would just take U of T if it’s a lot cheaper :slight_smile:

They are both fine schools so if U of T is a lot cheaper, I’d go with that.

You will need a work permit/visa for the USA. That will affect job opportunities more than anything.

Do you all think that UIUC might provide a better education or more job opportunities?

I think the answer to that question is pretty clear. :slight_smile: UToronto is ranked higher for Chemistry, and job opportunities will be better as you have Canadian citizenship. The fact that UToronto is cheaper is a huge bonus. Congratulations on your acceptance.

@ShrimpBurrito Thanks!!!

Also do you want to spend four years in the middle of cornfields or in the middle of a thriving, cosmopolitan city?

@TomSrOfBoston I don’t think that will be a major factor, i guess?

Picking a school based on nightlife is overrated. You probably won’t have time to go out often as a Chemistry major. UIUC chemistry is one of the top Chem programs in the United States. Champaign is a underrated college town with decent restaurants, bars and a large international community, plus great cost of living with train access to Chicago (about $15 one way)

@WildestDream Hi, I would want to know how far is it from NYU?

New York City? It’s a 2 hr flight from Chicago (which is around 2 hour train/bus ride from Champaign) You can Google it yourself. Lol
