Hey, I'm an international student and have applied to the U of T for engg. I had to fill in the residence form by March 31. SO, I've narrowed it down to New College, Innis College, and Chestnut(not so sure-its a 15 min walk from UTSG).

Are these the best residences to select given that I want a college that has no religious preferences and preferably has double or single occupancy rooms?

I am also applying for UofT, but I had no clue what to do for the residences. I just ended up picking Chestnut and Innis. I hear that this is just preference though, and they’ll usually run out of spaces and end up sending you offers for a residence that you didn’t indicate.

Most engineers are at chestnut…I lived at chestnut this year and yeah the walk is a little annoying in the winter. At chestnut you will have a room mate. At other colleges it can vary. You will not get a large single room.

I think you are referring to halal food?? Im not sure what you mean by religious preferences?..

And yeah like the guy above said you really dont have much say…you’ll likely end up at chestnut or new college.

Is it possible to change your preference for residence? I initially chose Innis then found out there was no meal plan and Chesnut is far away from campus but can I still switch college preferences?

Religious, as in St. Mike’s and Victoria are too religious for my taste.

I ended up putting University College, New College, and Trinity in my preferences.
Now, I know the Trinity isn’t an engineering place, but its just so pretty. :D

I’ll get a mail in two to three weeks telling me where I’ve been accepted.

And thats the reason I didn’t choose Innis, no meal plan. :(

Trinity and St Mikes are the two religious colleges at U of T.

If your doing Engineering, New is the closest to the Eng buildings. The dorms at New are TINY. Chestnut is an old hotel that isn’t even on the campus proper. Some of the rooms at St Mikes are HUGE but its a hike to Sanford Flemming.

I ended up being assigned to Chestnut. After some research, it doesn’t seem so bad.

Nice facilities and amazing food. Also located pretty close to the busy parts of downtown. The only downsides are that it is about 1.5km away from campus, which is about a 15 minute walk. That, and you have a roommate.

I haven’t been allotted a residence ye. I’ve been admitted, its been two weeks, but still no news on residence. Normally, how long does it take to get a residence offer?

I received my offer of admission on March 23rd, and got my residence offer about 3 weeks later. It was just an e-mail from Chestnut that let me know what to do should I want to accept.
