Can anyone tell me about 89 Chestnut Residence, is it not a College? Is it just for engineering students?
Anything I should know about each Colleges?
New College has a 250 space available so does 89 Chestnut Residence, are both good colleges for engineering students?
Thanks

89 Chestnut is not a college, it's a residence. Actually, it used to be a hotel but is now used by U of T to house students. It's not on campus so I would recommend against it, especially for a first year student. And no, it is not just for engineering students.

wow you got accepted already? when? congratulations!

i applied but haven't got any news yet. anyway, if ever i do get in, i'm leaning towards st. michaels. since eng. is a professional school, they don't have a "home base" unlike other schools. so i guess the next best thing is to choose somewhere near!

I was accepted into New College as well, and I'm having a bit of a dilemma choosing between 89Chestnut and new college...the food at 89 seems to be 'better', while new rez is closer to classes...does anyone have more info or advice?

My friend lives at 89 Chestnut, but all I really know is that he has to bike everywhere cause it's pretty far from his classes, and his roomate dropped out so now he has like a full size hotel room to himself.

Chestnut is one of the best residences at U of T. Unfortunately, it's also the farthest from campus.

My son's experience at UofT has been excellent, and a lot of this has to do with his college. I think there are a lot of social advantages to being in a college (as opposed to just being in a residence) that you might want to consdier. My son has participated in student government, theater, and a lot of social events at his college, it is the center of his social life. If you are going to live in res at UofT, your college does matter. If oyu live at home it has far less impact for you. IMHO you should pick New over 89 Chestnut. Also New has a far better location.

Hi I’m applying to engineering at u of t and can make my mind on which residence should I live in, New College, St Mike or Innis? What’s better to have a private washroom, have a good meal plan, or be close to classes?

How long did it take you guys to get accepted? I thought they needed first semester grades?

go with new college! I love the residence.

New College is closest to engineering. Innis, Woodsworth, and University are also possibilities. I wouldn't venture to trinity, Victoria, or St.Mikes unless you are in love with them.
