University of Utah Class of 2025 — Regular Decision

From a 2024 parent, don’t neglect looking back at the class of 2024 discussion. We travelled a lot of miles together in that discussion! Even in this wacky COVID world, our son has had a good start to his year at Utah. The area is very nice and he has met kids from coast to coast just in his dorm. Many of the “stories” are true (bad food) but all in all it has been really good so far.

My son applied to both as well. Good to see there are OOS students’ - we are from Midwest. His visit was cancelled last March but we’ve been to the area for skiing in the past. Denver is a top contender as is Boulder. He’s a skier. Planning on business major.

JD777 - glad your son is having a good year! Do you mind sharing which dorm he choose & would he still recommend it? Congrats on getting 1/2way through the first FIRST_YEAR COLLEGE OF COVID! It has to be tough on kids and parent (yes, everything is tough but that has a special set of challenges) & so nice to hear your son has done well. I have a niece that started this year as well (not at UofU) and she has navigated pretty well too - resilience of kids!

Asked my son this and he said “Try to get into Kahlert or Lassonde” but he thinks Kahlert is a little better. Very modern building. Food at Kahlert is not good and he and his friends often go over to Lassonde to eat (but it is more expensive).

Did someone say skiing? I ski a lot and live in Boulder, so…

The skiing at Utah is amazing, and it’s so much closer. For CU it’s a long slog over the continental divide for the great mountains. Eldora is a 30-40 min bus ride from campus, but it’s nothing like A basin, Vail, or Winter Park. CU has the best hiking/biking.

A hidden gem for Colorado skiing is Fort Lewis College in Durango: Academics Home | Fort Lewis College | Durango Colorado Puragatory is close, Teluride is less than 2 hours, and the powder heaven know as Wolf Creek is nearby.

Thanks very much - appreciate the input!

So has anyone heard EA yet or is tomorrow the day?

My D’s portal still says tomorrow is the day. Do we find out scholarships tomorrow too or is it just accepted/denied?

Tomorrow is the day! Apparently some transfer students heard earlier but I haven’t heard of any new freshmen finding out yet.

Ugh - March 1 is the day for merit aid decisions to be released. That feels like SUCH a long wait.

Waiting here too. March 1 is a long time! We are OOS (California) so it would be good to know sooner than that. But we don’t hear from CA schools until Feb or Mar anyway so I guess he won’t make any decisions until then anyway. I think the wait is harder on me than my son. Lol.

LOL! Right there with you on this!

Does anyone know what time decisions will be released tomorrow?

I just watched a video on the Facebook page for the admissions office - it was posted yesterday. They said they will notify students after the end of the school day in their time zone. Not sure what time that is. Also not sure if that means it will be available online sooner but the email won’t go out until later. They just said they didn’t want to distract kids from school by sending out an email in the morning.

I think decisions are available now—I just logged in and got mine.

Good luck to all today! Our son also got in but his transcript status is listed as “initiated” whereas it was showing ‘completed’ before. Anyone else have this?
