Hello all!
I have my heart set on UW a lot of my friends are going and have a lot of family and they have a great business program.
I have an average GPA of 3.6(do great on essays and assignments but not tests)
I am a male Hispanic/Latino
I am a male harpist
I have NOT taken any SAT/ACT but I imagine I’d do fairly well above average as on all standardized testing I’ve passed with flying colors
I also go to a very good high school quite a bit more advanced than the state and district
I also have volunteered a total of 75 hours at food banks and plan on doing a lot more
I also plan on doing foreign exchange program and am going to do running start
I do not need any financial aid whatsoever
Thanks guys, if I don’t stand out what are some things I can do to stand out more.
The best way to stand out is to get your GPA higher and PRACTICE before you take the SAT or ACT. You need good scores - scores that put you solidly into the top half of admitted students. Seriously - a few more volunteer hours more or less makes no difference whatsoever. 200 pts. on your SAT could make a significant difference.
Chance yourself by googling the Common Data Set for this and any other school to which you are applying and scroll down to Section C to compare your stats to those of admitted students. Give yourself a slight boost for being male hispanic/latino. Being a harpist is also an unusual EC for a hispanic male (could be an interesting essay?). 75 hrs of volunteering is fine - no need to do more unless you really enjoy it. A foreign exchange program could be interesting depending on where it is and what you are doing and why - the why matters.
Hi! Try your best to get your GPA higher, an upward trend will look great! As of test scores, just do a lot of practice tests, and pick a test that best fits you. Since you’re interested in business, then do some activities related to business, like an internship at local colleges.
