I am a soon to be senior and I go to a competitive public school in Oregon. My freshman year I got a 3.33 gpa, my sophomore year I got a 2.96 :(, and my junior year I got a 3.7 (3.4 first semester, 4.0 second semester) I took 1 IB class junior year(Anthropology) and got an A in both semesters. I have forcasted for IB (HL) Anthropology and IB Geography. I have only taken the ACT and scored a 22 which I am going to retake. My goal is to get a 26 or higher (I am trying to be realistic). I will be taking the SAT and I am aiming for a 1600 or higher, I am a horrible standardized test taker. I am also a triplet so my parents have to send all of us to college at the same time including my older brother, so that's 4 kids.

Extra Curriculars:

Have had some of my artwork in restaurants and art shows (ceramics and photography)

University of Washington primarily focuses on grades, which are primarily week. If you have a combined GPA of 3.7 during your high school year you have a better chance. Also, If you have an ACT of 28-31 would be better. I don’t think they place a very big impact on ECs.

The UW is not very generous when it comes to financial aid. This year, they gave merit scholarships to well-qualified out-of-state students but other than that, there is no aid for an out-of-state student. I know they are also going to raise out-of-state tuition rates for the next two years while keeping the in-state rate the same as this last school year. Keep that in mind when considering the UW.

My daughter is in-state and we have another daughter in college and my husband is currently unemployed. With the very little financial aid the UW offered (a $2,700 grant), it is actually cheaper for my daughter to go to a private school on the other side of the country than it is for her to attend the UW. She had over a 3.7 GPA and over 1900 for the SAT and 29 for the ACT (not stellar, but strong). She also took 9 AP classes during high school.
