University of Washington, Seattle VS Boston University

I sent my SIR to the University of Washington, Seattle days ago, but I recently got admitted to Boston University. Now, I have this new feeling of ambivalence. Money is not really a problem, but I’m an international student if that is anything important. U Dub considers me as an out-of-state applicant while BU considers me a pure international student so tuition differences do exist. Which school is more prestigious? Which school is more academically better? Which school would be more beneficial for a person who wants to pursue biomedical research?

Both schools are great academically. Where do you live now?

Big differences:

UW-- rainy, damp almost all the time
lots of commuters
not sure about percentage of international students

BU-- variable weather-- can be hot and humid, snowy, cold, windy depending
on the time of year
used to be known as a commuter school years ago, but not now
many international students

I've been living in California for 17 years, but I am classified as international for various reasons. More insight/words from others would be amazing! I have until the 12th to tell them if I'll attend or not.

I would say BU is more prestigious and probably has more to offer overall.

Really? You may be correct. Infact, it seems that BU is a bit more popular. However, I'm looking at numbers and it seems that U Washington has more students than BU. That's probably because it's a public school right? Right now I'm on the verge of going insane because I can't seem to choose... Can someone spout random facts about BU that makes it greater than U Dub or vice versa? I can only look at numbers... which shouldn't be the deciding factors. It seems that U Dub is higher ranked that BU, etc etc but I know that numbers don't make up everything! I need to submit my intent to register to BU by Monday if I plan to go.

We have a lazy river. Except not. We have a beach. Except not. And our President is Bobby Brown. Except not.

Some rooms in Warren towers see into Fenway park. We have the tallest law school in the nation. We used to be almost entirely a commuter school. BU was originally a seminary. Eugene O'neil died in one of our dorms, before it was a dorm.

And those are my favorite facts about BU.

The end.

theyre both great- visit and decide

He died in Shelton. On the 4th floor. It was room 401 but I don't know if the numbers are the same. He was also born in a hotel.

Hi,
We're past the freshman yr. @ B. U. (yes, that's where we decided) but don't think that the dilemma settled down. It's ongoing. In fact, my daughter tried (more than once) to transfer to the U. of WA (where she was accepted too, initially, just like @ B. U., except WA didn't give her any $ and B. U. did).
Curious what you decided - the last poster in May. It's been fun reading others' posts about this. I could add mine but don't want to make my daughter mad. Haha. She's out of the country, volunteering in Africa.

I've decided to stick with Boston University :)

I think it was a great choice, but at the same time, I could let all those "What if... What if..." thoughts run through my head. Oh well! I'm glad with my decision.

Go Terriers!
