How reputable is the university's department in history? Also, is it easy to double major? I was thinking possibly majoring in some aspect of history and journalism. And lastly, how popular/manageable is it to study abroad at the university?

One of the best, particularly for US History, Women’s, African, Latin American, European and very good for other concentrations. Big dept with a world class rep. The State Historical Society is on campus and is the largest library devoted to No. Amer. History outside the Smithsonian. Some of the best classes I took. And if you are interested in the connection between science and history the History of Science Dept is incredible. Journalism is great too and a natural for a dbl major.
