University of Wisconsin vs. University of Washington vs. Lehigh University for chemical engineering

I'm still waiting on a few other decisions to get back to me, but I'm having trouble decide between the ones that I have narrowed down. I will be a chemical engineering major.

University of Wisconsin- Madison
University of Washington- Seattle
Lehigh University

I understand out of this list, Wisconsin is ranked the highest on the subject, but does it make it more worth it to attend compared to Lehigh?

University of Wisconsin

What are the out of pocket cost differences we’re looking at here?

They’re all out of state so Lehigh is about 10,000 more than the rest. However, I wanna know what the best choice is without taking the price into consideration.

I would do UW-Madison. Better program, national reputation, great college town, save 40k.

University of Washington hands down. I live in Seattle and love UW. For me, I factor in environment. I’ve toured Lehigh but I would say that it is more expensive and much smaller. The town that surrounds it is small and about 1.5 hours from Philly. UW is located in a very metropolitan area and the networks in the area are amazing. Good luck with your decision.

Definitely, University of Washington!!! Don’t look at who is ranked at what. If you do then you should know that University of Wisconsin-Madison and Lehigh University are also known as a party schools. I would visit each of the schools that you are interested in and then make the decision! Good luck!

And what to you is a “party school”. Udub has plenty of partying for the few that stay around on weekends. But it is also more a commuter school. And not known for Chem E while Wisconsin is well known…

It’s more of a decision between University of Wisconsin & Lehigh. Wisconsin is ranked #6 for chemical engineering while Lehigh is in the seventies, but Lehigh is a private school with much smaller classes. Is Lehigh going to sound better to potential employers?

Lehigh classes may be smaller, but they are not “small” for introductory level courses. For example, general chemistry lectures appear to have over 100 students, with 10 to 23 student labs, according to the schedule at https://lewisweb.cc.lehigh.edu/PROD/bwckschd.p_disp_dyn_sched</a> .

All other things equal, large size tends to be more attractive to employers who have to travel to recruit, due to there being more recruitable students there. Any school will have an advantage in its local area due to recruiting convenience.

That’s OK if they’re all affordable. Are they?

I would go for U Wisconsin since Lehigh is so much more expensive.

Employers do not favor private schools over public schools. Especially when the public is as well regarded as UW-Madison and known in that field as well. I don’t know Leheigh much but I have to say the reputation edge goes to Wisconsin in this case. However, if there is some reason you love Leheigh and your parents don’t min the extra money, then that’s your choice.

In my current situation, lehigh is actually going to be 10k cheaper than the other 2.
