Does anyone have any insight to the University Scholars Program in Medicine and Danforth Scholarship? For both-How many typically apply? How many are typically invited to the interview weekend? How many are typica
Meant to add how many are typically accepted?
Not sure about how many applications there are to USPM, but the cohort is typically ~20 students.
USPM isn’t the typical BSMD program since there are strict requirements needed to continue on to WashU Medical School (3.8 overall GPA + qualifying MCAT score).
The main stumbling blocks are General/Organic Chemistry. WashU now has another Chemistry sequence (105/106) which is supposed to be more forgiving to student GPAs than the traditional 111A/112A General Chemistry (which most students still take since it covers more).
My understanding is that there is another sequence for Organic Chemistry geared towards Biology majors/premed which is easier than the other Orgo course, even though the course numbers are the same.
Overall, Chemistry is better taught at the introductory level at WashU than Introductory Biology per my son.
Also Danforth nominations are made by high school counselors if I remember correctly. Although that may have changed.
Thanks. My son applied for Danforth and no teacher nomination was required.
