I love Guster. and Eisley and Maximo Park among others.

Only some unknown bands are good though too. All underground EMO and "punk" bands pretty much suck because they all sound EXACTLY the same as each other. There's no originality to their music. That's why MTV sucks - one year you've got Sum 41 and then next you've got Good Charlotte and they are pretty much similar but you'd never even know Sum 41 existed if you only watched MTV after GC got most of the play. It's like MTV is the sole all-knowing one on music, about who gets air time and such, and they shouldn't be.

Hilary Duff <---the worst singer to have ever walked the planet.
What about 50 cent? Anyone?

hilary duff is worse. and i hate that song "candy shop"

50 Cent is NOT a singer.

Unless I'm wrong. I thought he was a rapper. Rapping, to me, is just fast talking (and usually as grammatically incorrect as possible).

Greener
http://www.greenermusic.com

and then the good stuff...Athlete.

Its another way for people to show "originality" I suppose. Kind of a wasted effort. Different strokes for different folks I suppose.

Well it depends how you define unknown. I know some great artists who are not known in America but in their own countries. Sarah Mclachlan had a great swedish band open for her called The Perishers and they're well known in sweden but not in the U.S. Has anyone heard of Schiller? I love his music!

omg i sooo agree!! me and my sister sang her songs to see if we are better than her.. and yes.. we are! (from my mom and friends' point of view) Her strained voice makes me sick and want to puke.
And she calls herself "rock." Ahahahahah!
yeah someone told me that she said her music is more generating into rock. my ass.
And my sister showed me her 'teen vogue' and it was like :copy Hilary Duff! and there were all these pictures of spikey wristbands, black tops, black slouchy pants, etc..

She makes me sick

Some of you guys might know but Stratovarius and Helloween(kind of famous).
The only problem is Helloween sucks :)

I don't listen to unknown bands because they're cool, but it just seems like most of the bands I listen to are unknown because they're foreign. Whatever, I just listen to good music, it doesn't matter if they're mainstream or not. And since I guess there's no place in mainstream society for "power metal" or "folk metal", these bands'll stay unknown stateside.

Just next to my desk I have:
Amon Amarth, Amorphis, Avantasia, Ayreon, Bal-Sagoth, Blind Guardian, Borknagar, Dragonforce, Edguy, Elvenking, Ensiferum, Falkenbach, Finntroll, Freedom Call, Green Carnation, Hammerfall, In Flames, Kalmah, Kamelot, Machinae Supremacy, Moonsorrow, Orphaned Land, Rhapsody, Silent Force, Skyclad, Sonata Arctica, Stratovarius, Symphony X, Thunderstone, Turisas, and Wintersun

Kudos if you've heard of any of them; if not, you're missing out on some really great music.

Sonata Arctica own so much it's unbelievable.
listening to The Cage right now

If you like Athlete, I recommend Embrace, Snow Patrol, and Keane. Still, Coldplay is the original master of British music :)

i love coldplay. snow patrol is ok i guess. keane is kind of annoying.

Snow Patrol, Coldplay, Keane and Embrace all make me want to sleep.

And that's a bad thing? I listen to Coldplay when I just want to chill after a lonnnngggggg day.

i dont like coldplay but i like placebo lol

does anyone else like placebo?

I like Coldplay and all but they're in no way the original master of British music.

Original master of British music = The Beatles. End of storyl

i love so many kinds of music, ill make a list later when im bored/have math hw i want to procrastinate on (which is usually the case when i leave long babbling posts...which is often.)

but effulgent i know what you mean about the "being different" thing.. haha like punks and goths...its like oh i dress all in plaid or black because i am unique. oh wait though, so do a million other wannabes...
so stupid. why not just do what you wanna do and not care about making a statement or what people will think. clearly if you're going that far (i.e. a kid at my school who had this elaborate mohawk to show that he "didnt give a ****"... but clearly spent like 5 hours brushing glue through his hair..), you DO care, so dont think you're fooling anybody.

that said, theres nothing wrong iwth liking uncommon bands, it kind of feels like your own little thing, like more personal or something. but whenever i find my own "unknown" bands they always end up turning mainstream (not like hilary duff mainstream but in the way that say, the shins have turned up everywhere after being on the garden state soundtrack [which is amazing])... then it feels like theyve been a little bit corrupted or something. haah but its not a reason to stop liking them!

so you stop liking bands just because they become really succesful and its not your "own little thing" ok?
