Unpaid Internship vs. Retail Job

I'm looking ahead to the summer so I can start some planning. I'm finishing up my freshmen year in college right now and I know not many companies are willing to hire freshmen for paid internships. So in the summer, I'm planning to either get an unpaid internship or a regular retail job like cashier in a supermarket.

Would employers be more impressed with an unpaid internship than being a cashier?

Thanks

Unless your are going into the retail business after college, an unpaid internship experience in your field is much more useful to a future employer in that field.

Complete an unpaid internship only if you will be doing meaningful work. Otherwise, being a cashier can look good to employers, and you will be making money.
