I want to get an internship for this upcoming summer. If I can't get a traditional (paid) internship, I'd be willing to do an unpaid internship just for the work experience. I did some online research and it seems like it's possibly illegal to do an unpaid internship depending on what you do, and I can't find any unpaid opportunities online or anything. So, does anyone know how you go about getting an unpaid internship? Any help would be great!

Engineers won’t have available unpaid internships 99% of the time, because you’re acting as a full engineer for those months, not just being a coffee-getter or note-taker like you would in advertising/marketing/consulting/whatever. Basically to be unpaid, an internship has to be “educational,” but in an engineering internship, they expect you to have the knowledge and just apply it to their problems.
