Unsheltered Private School?

As I've sorted through colleges, I've come to realize that a smaller private school is what I'm looking for. But the more I look, the more I see that they seem so sheltered and unaware of the outside world. I was hoping for some suggestions of small-medium sized schools that ALSO have a wordly view.

Oberlin has many students who are very politically-aware and stay in touch with the outside world.

Maybe you should look for a small-medium private school located in a big city; that might help students to avoid being so sheltered.

I agree that urban location makes a big difference -- think of Macalester, Reed, and U of Chicago for starters.

mmmmmmmmmm
Georgetown
GWU
NYU
Columbia
Bu
BC
Tufts

LOL Columbia?

My advice is Tufts (for sure), Rice (I'm surprised it wasn't mentioned), Swarthmore, Northwestern (small private located on the outskirts of Chitown)

hate to burst your bubble but any upper-tier small private school is going to be contained in a bubble. the best you can hope for is that it is near a large urban area . in reality, college itself exists in a bubble, the only way to get "real" is to live in the real world.

Where is Rice?

Rice is a very small private university located in Houston. It is next to the Texas Medical Center (the largest medical complex on the face of the earth)and close to the Museum District of downtown. However, it is not exactly there. You will need a car to access the vibrant city life. However, the METROrail system is just as convenient. Rice's exact location is in an affluent suburb close to a chain of pricey restuarants (Rice Village). It's a great pick if you can stand the humidity. It also has the fifth highest per student endowment at $600,000. I suppose that is why the tuition is so altruistic.

In short...go there.:)

Dude that game kicks butt.

Yeah of course it does. :)
