College Preferences: I’d like a small-medium sized school.
Background:
Senior from Missouri
Don’t have any applications in to other schools
Have visited Drake, Bradley, Truman State, Illinois Institute of Technology, and Missouri S&T
Out of the five schools, I liked Missouri S&T the most because of it’s surroundings being not too small (like Truman State), but not in the middle of a huge city (like the Institute of Technology)
I’m planning on getting my application in for S&T by tonight so I can at least have one under my belt
What I need help with:
One trouble I’m having is looking for schools. Since I’m in Missouri, I have really only been exposed to schools that are near me. I’m interested in knowing what other schools I should be looking at that I may have not of known about that have a good CS program for people in my grade range. Any recommendations of where I should be looking would be awesome!
Thank you so much for taking the time to read this and hopefully there wasn’t too much text! Addressing anything I wrote about would be really helpful and I’d be incredibly grateful!
How much can you afford to pay? Ask your parents about that, and have them run the Net Price Calculator at each university website. That way you will know if any of these are likely to be affordable.
Can you re-take your ACT? If you would get the score to at least 30, you would have more options.
Thanks for the reply! Thankfully my parents are going to be able to pay for a good amount of the costs. It depends on where I go of course, but they told me they wouldn’t want me to not be able to go to a school I really want to go to because of the cost. I wouldn’t go to a ridiculously expensive school but they would be willing to work with me.
I don’t think I’d be able to take the ACT again, at least for this semester. I’ve already been feeling really stressed with everything that’s been going on.
Hey, I’m similar to your situation. The difference is I’m looking to major in communications. I am looking at schools of 3,000 to 8,000 in the Midwest. Gpa 3.6, act 26.
I have visited and applied to both Bradley and Truman. I agree Truman is too in the middle of nowhere. I’m fairly familiar with Bradley since I live close to it and I know that it’s a great school. Strong academics.
Butler University (4,000 students) is a great school in Indiana, similar to Bradley and Drake.
Possibly University of Missouri (20,000+Students), Marquette(8,000 students)
I’m considering applying to Drake. What was it like on your visit? How’d you like it?
A good website that I used to search for colleges was big future.collegeboard.org and niche.com.
These allow you to see colleges in your region, colleges that compare to you academically, and also by # of students
If you are willing to look a little farther West, Denver University could be a nice fit if you can afford it. They give merit money but I am not sure at what level stats the money kicks in. Also they offer nonbinding early action.
You might have a shot at Case Western depending on you ECs and the rest of your application. Try to visit and show some interest. It’s the right size and not too awfully far from you.
