Untaxed disability pension

My only income is a untaxed disability pension due to injury in law enforcement- Do I place it on the FAFSA Application and will prevent my kid from being eligible to receive Fafsa

Probably line 94i or 94f.

How a school factors in your untaxed disability pension in its aid determination is probably school dependent.

I thought untaxed disability was not included on the FAFSA…but maybe I’m wrong.

@BelknapPoint or @kelsmom?

I agree. Here is language from FAFSA line 94.i:

Other untaxed income not reported in items 94a through 94h, such as workers’ compensation, disability benefits, etc.

For institutional aid, yes. For federal and other government aid, different schools should treat the same type of income and assets in the same way.

This might apply to Social Security disability. OP did not specify the source of his/her “disability pension.”

A student doesn’t “receive” FAFSA. FAFSA is a form that is completed and submitted by the student to see if the student is eligible for government educational assistance (some schools also use it to dispense institutional aid). Whether or not any particular item reported on FAFSA will impact a student’s eligibility for assistance depends on a number of different factors.

Only SSDI is exempted from reporting. Private disability payments DO have to be reported.
