Doing untimed CR sections at first, then slowly starting to time yourself; does this work?

Depends on how much time you have

It does work. :D

I have until October

@LoseYourself: can you give me details on how you did it, how long it took, etc? I’d really appreciate it. I need a 1480 M+CR for the program I’m looking at, as a minimum required score, so I want around a 1550+ to be super competitive. I can get 770+ in Math, I’m sure, It’s just my CR fluctuates from like 680-740

It worked at for me at first because for me, I could never finish a CR section on time. I had a 66CR on the PSAT. I did untimed CR sections from the BB and started out with 610. After 3, I was up to 690. I went to timed, when my scores dropped slightly. However, the raised back up to mid 700’s b/c between each test I reviewed correct answers thoroughly. By the time I was done w/ 10 tests (3 untimed), I was able to complete each CR section in 16-17 mins.

On the 2 SAT’s I took, I got a 740 (3 wrong) and 770 (3 wrong) in CR. The strategy works, because you learn how to find the correct answer first, and then you quicken the process. Remember, know your vocab as well and always pick the answer that is DIRECTLY supported by text (only 1 answer is the MOST correct).

^Thanks for the help! I really appreciate it! I can only hope I can reach such a high score as 770!

I actually go over Speed Reading techniques with my students that I tutor. While I don’t speed read normally (its not really necessary for everyday reading), its a great skill to have when you need it.

Simple techniques like re-reading a passage and going faster each time (since you know it now because you’ve read it before) can help train you to be able to read faster.

You should look over Xiggi’s method for this.

@ shoolisfun, what program are you looking at…because I think in one of your posts you said it was a medical program… so im just curious to know what program it is.

It’s okay to take untimed sections at first. You want to eventually move on to timing the sections just like the real SAT so you can mimic the real test and be prepared. :D
