Hello, im currently in my first semester of college. Im out of state very far from my family. My situation is recently a very important family issue has came up that really requires me to go back home permanently. There is another college right in my home town and I would like to go there, and I know I have the stats to get in, but the thing is I really can't wait for next semester to transfer. Is it possible to just withdraw from my current college now, and then try to start anew in the spring with the college back home? Or should I just try to find a way to stay here until the semester ends and then apply as a transfer?

In your other thread you said that you were unhappy at your current college, and wanted to leave. Has a family situation come up in additon to that? Have you gone to your current college's health center to ask for counseling? You will find that there are many students feeling just as you do, and that the health center may have some excellent advice for you. It would also be a good idea to talk with your academic advisor and visit all of your professors during their office hours to discuss the difficulties you are having.

The most important concerns are for your health and well-being. Gather together a support system where you are now - your current college - at the health center, the academic counseling center, and your professors to help you make a transition to a better situation for you. It may be that, if you have a good plan all mapped out for making the transition after the semester, you find making it through the semester a bit more tolerable. If at any time it all feels like it is just too much, go directly to the health center - there will always be a shoulder to cry on there.

If after all that, you find you really must go home to protect your health, you will have lots of people at your current college who can give advice and write letters explaining the situation to a potential new college. There are ALWAYS second chances, and third, and fourth...

Good luck and all my best.

Contact the home-town college and tell them your story. They will know if they have space for you second semester, and they can tell you how to apply.

To answer you question it will depend on when the school at home started. This is past add dates for most schools unless they had a very late start. If that is the case you will have to wait, and you would want to as you would be too far behind for most courses that were not fluff.
