Im currently a freshman at a public U in VA. Things is 1)I hate it here and 2) Ive had a lot of medical problems lately that have severely affected my grades. I am considering withrawing before the end of this semester. If I do this, and provide the schol with documentation from my health care proider, the I would get a W for all my classes along with an explanation for my leaving the school. Thing is, I was wondering what I should do once my health issues get taken care of. Spring semesters start in January. Is there any way that I could transfer into a school for the spring semester even though I wouldnt have any credits? My high school stats were alright…1380 SAT, SATIIs 730/780/790, GPA 3-something, 3 APS, captain of the varsity soccer team. I am very confused as to where to start. Would I be considered a freshman? And do you think that if I went to a school and explained my situation that there might be a small chance that they let me in? I want to avoid hving to attend our local community college if thats possible. I would feel more comfortable attending a univeristy should I be deemed ok by the doctor. I havent been able to find any threads like this so any input would be greatly appreciated.

I think it would be a good idea to talk to the counselor and registrar at the school you now attend. The registrar could tell you about the process for withdrawing from school, and the counselor/school psychologist could help you think through what you want to do as far as taking time to recover, appyling to other schools, etc. You are not alone; many students have found themselves in your situation. I had a friend freshman year who hated our school. I think her main problem was homesickness. She withdrew and returned to New England. She did go to the community college for a semester and eventually enrolled in a university. She was much happier, even if it took her a little while to find the right situation. Best wishes.
