Hi everyone and congrats to those starting to be accepted at Pitt!

I have an unusual question - my daughter will probably be attending Pittsburgh Ballet's year-round training program in the fall as a H.S. graduate and is interested in enrolling in an English or history class at Pitt. Is this possible? Does Pitt allow outsiders to enroll just for a single for-credit class?

She's already applied to other colleges (most pretty selective) and has started to receive some acceptances, but hopes to be granted a deferral for the following fall semester (take a gap year) so that she can attend Pittsburgh Ballet's program. Ideally, she would like to have the class at Pitt be accepted as a transfer credit when she does go to her college the following year.

Thanks!

Some colleges are pretty fussy when they grant you a deferral. Some stipulate that you cannot attend college elsewhere while you're doing the gap year. So your daughter would have to be careful about that.

I really don't know anything about taking a class at Pitt if you're not a registered student, sorry. Seems to me that if you want to take a class for credit, you would have to be admitted to Pitt first.

She should look at the School of General Studies, she would probably be restricted to evening and weekend classes. Look under admissions, non-traditional students.

Thanks knownaught for the helpful info! The evening/weekend classes would actually work out better for her and her expected ballet class/rehearsal schedule. I'll have her look into this before fall classes begin.

You're welcome. I hope your daughter has a good year.
