since sophomore year, my weighted gpa shows an upward trend. however, if i convert my soph and junior year gpa's to unweighted, it shows a downward trend. will colleges look at the upward trend in weighted gpa (because i assume that shows that you are getting relatively better grades), or will they look at the trend in unweighted gpa's?

Depends on what your school sends them. If your school sends both, assume they’ll look at both.

well the college im looking at is going to recalculate it into unweighted, so theyre gonna be looking at both. is looking at the trend in my UW gpa fair/reasonable?

Why wouldn’t looking at the UW trend be fair? For one thing you stated this:
That’s a bad assumption. If your UW trend is down then you are taking harder classes but getting worse grades. That’s what taking the extra weighting for difficulty out shows.
