UO Chemistry/Science department

Hi, I'm an out of state student from Bay Area in California having troubles deciding on transferring to UO. I also got accepted to Oregon State University and UC Santa Cruz, all for Chemistry major. I understand that Oregon State is pretty strong in the sciences, but I don't know too much about the area there (nor Eugene..) but I have heard it's really quite small, which is somewhat of a drawback. I want to consider UO because not only is it a good school, but it's also located in a really decent-sized city. Also, I love that it is a very liberal school as well.

I would think about UCSC, and I know it's a pretty good school for many fields, but I want to try elsewhere and see what is out there, and I also love Oregon.

My question is: How is the Chemistry department at University of Oregon, and how does it compare to Oregon State or even UCSC? Is there anything that particularly stands out, or is it not as good? Is it particularly more difficult and more challenging, or more laidback? Are the classes difficult (compared to OSU or UCSC)?
What about even the Biology department?

Thanks, any info about it can help.

tko109, here are some web links that might help you come to a decision:

The UO is particularly known for its green chemistry program. Your best bet might be to contact the department directly to ask these questions:

The chemistry department at the U of O is deffinitely a lot worse than it was in years past meaning that its a lot easier classes and overall to get the degree its a lot easier and doesn’t require as much effort as it used to but this could be more of a nationwide trend than just U of O

Here’s some objective statistics, taken from U.S. News and World Report:

Also, Oregon State University is ranked lower in University of Oregon in virtually ever science department except those that pertain to engineering.
