My daughter’s going to be so bummed she didn’t get TS (I know, it’s highly selective) but this is her #1 school and she’s really been hoping for TS.
How about Capstone? Does anyone here know when those letters are sent?
I think admissions is super confused because there are lots of people getting different information about how they are released. I was told they were coming out progressively individually but who knows. This process is crazy.
If my DS doesn’t meet your DD at UofSC, perhaps they’ll meet at Wash U or Purdue.
Yes, very possible!
I just contacted UoSC AO and was told that TS decisions will continue to be released.
Daughter likes UofSC more than we do (we love the lowest COA’s college, especially the full ride one:-) so she is a bit but we told her that TS evaluation is much more than test score and GPA. IT will come down to “fit” and “contribution”. We are still hoping that the decisions are still going, so don’t lose hope.
Good luck !
(This is rhetorical, I know you don’t know the answer). Why would you “trickle release” Top Scholars? It’s 95 kids. Unless what they really mean is they will release a few more invites after 2/8 if some kids turn down the invitation - which I agree, is highly unlikely this year.
- Maybe they are still deciding on their final selections for a group of kids that are on the cusp, and 2. Maybe some will turn it down even before the 8th if they have definitively decided that they aren’t going to USC.
My theory is they will interview TS kids in small groups in different days since this year interview will be virtual, therefore, they will release by small group for a few days ?
My theory/guess most often is wrong, so don’t buy into it. I have no clues how/why schools make decision , and scratching my head sometimes on their decisions.
My dd sent an email to administration offices yesterday asking the status of TS invites. This was the response he received:
“Good afternoon! We have released an initial round, but they have not all been released at this time. Notifications will continue throughout the week and possibly into next week as well.”
I know we’ve heard a lot of input about this, but I just got off of the Honors Student Panel event, and they’ve confirmed that they are still actively working on TS decisions and hope to finish by the end of next week!
Yep, my daughter told me that after the panel. Great news!
keep that hope alive
Anything?
Nothing. It’s been really quiet today on the boards I follow on here!
D, H and I all received an email with “Congratulations!” and something about “your name is on the list” and I thought it was maybe an invite to TS…but no…it is an invite to the Honors College virtual meet, which I think we already did in the fall.
Us, too!! Such a tease!
we went through this at Miami Ohio - they have “Presidential” Scholars. Everyone had a 35 or 36 ACT - so while I’m excited for my daughter Honors at U of SC took her with her 32 ACT superscore, I’m not thinking there’s any shot of TS. Hope I’m wrong but I think you have to be the elite of the elite. Funny - U of SC is the top Honors College and my daughter got into Charleston’s as well and loves the school - but wasn’t admitted into UGAs (you can apply if not), Pitt, Miami. One would assume if you are into U of SCs you’ll get into any but I know it’s not necessarily true.
I’m just trying to keep my daughter’s expectations in check. We all apply to stretch schools but when she was turned down by one it was still hard for her. Wishing everyone best of luck.
Totally agree with you !!!
I’m sure UofSC’s Top scholars evaluation process will be more than just GPA and SAT/ACT test scores. As parents, we hope our kids get recognition for their hard work and their outstanding performance through out HS. but there are many qualified candidates to choose from. We just need to support our kids and make sure that they will be happy wherever they choose to go.
Good luck to you and your kid.
There is no real “top honors program.” That’s a myth. For example, UGA honors has a stronger class by stats and gets more kids into elite positions than U of SC. So no, getting into U of SC honors does not mean the student should get into another honors program.
