I asked some questions this AM in their chat feature and the response I got was that notifications would go out mid-February. Different from what I was told last week. Supposedly acceptance emails would go out this week and if you didn’t make top scholar you will get an email the following week. They have not finalized the interview weekend dates and whether they would be in-person or virtual.
Just got off the phone with admissions. The guy I spoke with said a few TS invitations were extended yesterday. Wouldn’t tell me IS vs OOS. Wouldn’t tell me if most or only a few had gone out. I questioned why/if they were doing it differently this year and he said their HC &. TS have always gone out in 3 different waves and everyone should know by Feb 15. We are IS and aware that in previous years HC came out in waves; however, we thought TS all came out the sane day for IS at least.
I questioned why they just won’t send them out and he said most was finalized but not all was; he gave an example that they could be sending out 10 extra this year. So I don’t know the extra 10 could be… TS? HC? IS? OOS?
For OOS, the website said there are 45 TS invited, and all get one of the 3 TS awards… So, they have no “back up” or finalists students, right? If that is the case, I can see waves of invites with a quick response to see if they are still interested. ie if you applied ED to somewhere, then you may be obligated to go. So perhaps, the A-list went out. B-list coming etc…
I wonder if the TS email gives the student a deadline to commit to TS weekend? Or maybe asks them to let UofSC know if they are definitely not coming. We just know of one wave of TS invitations for iS last year; and that student rec’d the highest scholarship.
I do think everything is being done quite differently at UofSC this year and even this semester vs last semester. My son is a student there currently and he has NO face-to-face classes, for example. Last semester, he had two.
That is the sense I get from their answers to me. It seems like they have a slightly different answer each time and are in the process of figuring it out. Not a bad thing as this year has been different than other years so I think patience is key.
When my daughter read that email to me yesterday from the IS girl that got in, she did have to let them know, in a very short time period if she was going to attend the Finalist Event.
When is the weekend - just curious…
I was told that hadn’t been finalized either. In the past, there were separate weekends for IS vs OOS. It could very well be virtual this year.
I know this is asking a lot but could you possibly tell me what forum your daughter got the info from or was it a personal group chat? Thank you SO much!
I am on a Zeemee admitted students chat and the picture was sent in there.
Does anyone know how many students were admitted to the HC in December, and are probably “in the running”?
Thank you so much.
I’m realizing now that my twins are probably at a disadvantage because they both got into HC, and both have almost identical stats and EC’s. One plans to attend USC and the other probably won’t. So ugh, what if they would extend TS to the one not interested in USC, or if they don’t give it to either because they wouldn’t want to give it to one and not the other with their stats being so similar. Ok… now I’m way over-thinking this!
That would be a good problem to have.
It is understandable there are many students hoping for TS but are waiting for even better options. If you have the $$$ and got accepted to ______________ (best school in the world), then TS is likely not as important.
I heard about the one Top Scholars invite from zeemee (from my daughter) as well. There was a respond date of Feb 8 in the letter, so the invites must go out, then if people decline, more invites will go out between Feb 9 and Feb 15 until they have the anticipated number of weekend attendees. According the the screenshot, the in-state weekend is 2/20-22.
It just seems so odd that that is the only invite that any of these kids have heard of. My daughter is in a couple of snap group chats with over 100 kids in it - seems like there would be a least a couple more kids with invites out there…
Good to know that they gave dates for the weekend. From an earlier comment it sounded like they weren’t even sure the dates.
Agree good to know there are dates. Guess I am getting the run around.
I just wish they wouldn’t lie when I call. Why not say: “Our TS weekend will be Feb 20-22?”
No idea. I think there are still kids who think that they are being pranked by this mysterious invite. Screenshot looked legit to me.
