Yup. An email or a letter is fine. And if one of those schools is your first choice, you can mention that too.
Yes. Keep it short, though–just pass on the info with a few pleasantries and no fluff or padding.
@2019applicant: In addition to @marvin100’s sound advice, please ensure that those “awards/accomplishments” are meaningful, especially because February and March are admissions officers’ busiest time. It’s fine to provide information that may have real relevance to an acceptance decision, but it’s pesky to convey information that really is not very germane to their critical tasks.
