Hey guys, so I just found out that I'm a Finalist for the Gates Millennium Scholars Program, and am wondering whether or not I should send an update email to Rice. On one hand its nearly mid-March, so it probably won't make much of a difference. But it is a pretty big scholarship, so...I'm not sure. Any opinions?

probably too late, to be honest.

i dont think you send a update email. rice is not going to determine your acceptance based on your finalist status as a gates scholar. if that answers your question :/

I’m a parent of a current owl. I would definitely send them an email with this news. There’s no downside: If it’s too late, they’ll ignore it; If you are sitting on a bubble between acceptance and rejection/waitlist it may push you forward. Go for it and congratulations on your news. That kind of scholarship would be great to have in your back pocket, keep your fingers crossed!

not to belittle your achievement at all, but to be honest,

sending it so late might make you look lazy. More likely, it might seem a bit petty–sending an update with just one new accomplishment.

good luck tho, i hope you make the right choice

Late? Didn’t the OP just get notification about being a finalist? I agree with MSmom&dad. It can’t hurt. It’s “just one new accomplishment”, but an important one.

I’m with the Moms! Send an email with that info! Congratulations-

As they say, moms know best I agree with them as well… it can’t hurt (just make it clear to them you found out very recently).

Thanks everyone, for the congratulations and advice! Just sent in a brief email about it. :)
