I find it interesting that almost all of them are east of the Mississippi (UC Santa Barbara being a glaring exception. I wonder if that would change if they did they did the same for marijuana consumption?

Northeast and north central (midwest) regions tend to have higher levels of college drinking generally. But also, those regions have higher population and college density than most of the west. Although somewhat surprising that some colleges with very heavy fraternity participation (e.g. Depauw, Dartmouth, Washington & Lee) are not listed.
