Updated Thread For Finding BS Stuff!

I will say that if your kid goes to a school with daily room inspections, skip the top sheet and buy a duvet that can be “fluffed” in a second or two. Saves a lot of work making the bed!

Schools have daily room inspections?! What poor soul has to be responsible for those? Please don’t tell me the faculty.

I’m not sure if they sell a foam pad that fastens to the mattress, but if they do, I would definitely buy that one. Every Aug/Sept when I’m making their beds (Yes, I am that Mom), I find myself in an epic battle trying to keep the foam pad straight under the regular mattress pad and wind up having to lie facedown on their beds in order to tuck in the corners to keep them from popping up. It’s not very dignified nor is it pretty. My kids usually leave the room.

@london203 is so right- definitely skip the flat sheet!

That’s hilarious, PhotoMom. I did the setup first year. Since then, we’ve dropped the bags in his room and run. And, I’ll second (third?) skipping a flat and opting for a duvet. I made one by sewing a denim top to a flat-sheet bottom (from the sheet set) and slipping his favorite comforter between. Looks nice and is low maintenance.

ClassicalMama: sometimes it’s the prefects/proctors. But when I was a dorm parent, the room inspections
Were part of our responsibilities. I was the brave one who always opened their closets… Good grief, some of the things I saw… I occasionally have nightmares still!

In our family we are thankful for room inspections. Otherwise LondonKid would have been buried long ago…it also saves her poor roommate!

I don’t know how much time remains on this deal but I picked up a laptop cover for DD. It was about $25 with shipping.

Brooks Brothers boys button-down shirts are on sale now for 3 for $129. S2 can still wear size 20. The boys shirts are 40% cheaper than the Mens shirts.

@GMTplus7: What is the regular price?

The boys button-down shirts are normally priced 60 bucks each:

A boys size 20 will likely fit a freshman or lean sophomore boy:

Forever 21 has a lot of trendy clothes, and it’s usually really affordable! (It’s geared toward college kids who have no money, so it makes sense) That’s where I plan to get most of my clothes for next year.

Old navy dress shirts FTW… Cheap and durable.

THRIFT SHOPS ARE AWESOME.

Garage sales too!

I love the idea of thrift shops and yard sales. My son needs so many new clothes for next year. He is never seen in anything but sweats and t shirts. We needs lots of khakis, polo shirts, as well as button down shirts. I found new polos today for ten bucks a piece. Now that’s more my speed!

I’ve never bought anything from a thrift shop, but the Hebrew school takes a field trip to volunteer and sort things. My aunt offered to take me clothes shopping before high school, and I plan on stopping there!

I’ve found that Goodwill doesn’t have the best stuff and it’s way overpriced for a thrift store (at least in my town) but St. Vincent’s is a gold mine! I have the same problem as your son @Momto4kids all I ever wear is sweatpants and t-shirts. It’ll be a bit of a culture shock next year for me :-S

My daughter is a world class thrift shopper.
She actually found a dress perfect for her First Communion when we were in a store looking for something else…and she’s been hooked ever since!

S2 has been living under a rock during middle school. What brands of JEANS are high school boys wearing nowadays?

@GMTplus7: At my school, the most popular jean brands are Levi’s and Seven Jean.
