Hi everyone! I was fortunate enough to have been accepted to both universities, and I am thrilled! I am a latina who is currently interested in majoring in economics, and perhaps minoring in a language(French, Russian, or Arabic), art history, or computer science. I would love to study abroad, and I am especially interested in each school’s diversity level and alumni network, as well as job placement and internship/research opportunities. I know that both schools are academically rigorous, and I am up for the challenge, but I am also concerned about the quality of life at these two schools, especially in terms of stress levels. I am also little worried about UPenn’s size, in terms of getting lost amongst the crowd, as well as the supposed pre-professional vibes of the school. However, I have attended boarding school in CT for the past 4 years, and I am not a fan of CT’s weather. I am also curious about the social scenes at each school. Sorry for having so many questions, but I am just so excited! Could anyone please guide me in the right direction in terms of which school could be a good fit for me? Thanks!
If anyone could give some advice, that’d be great!
Personally, I would never make a decision like this based on something as trivial as the weather. You might have different priorities.
They are both excellent universities. I would choose Yale.
@JenniferClint Thank you!
You will excellent recruiting/job placement, internship and research opportunities from either school. It is true that Penn is more-preprofessional and Yale more intellectual but you can find either at both schools so it depends on what you prefer more.
Selling points for Yale:
Brand: Overall stronger, more recognizable brand
Size: smaller size probably more attention to undergrads as a result of that
Resources: it is a richer school than Penn, not exactly sure how this translates to practical differences in undergrad experience but likely there are some ways it does
Selling points for Penn:
Wharton: One selling point fro Penn is that you can supplement your econ degree with business classes at Wharton and participate in very interesting business/applied-econ research that a lot of Wharton professors do in addition to the more traditional Econ research opportunities you would find at either schools. I know a lot fo Penn Cas econ students who did that.
Location: Penns location is way better. Philly is a big (but not overwhelmingly huge) city with a lot fo options. Penn has a distinct campus and it is also very close to the city so you get both the campus experience and the big city experience
Social Scene: Penn has a more vibrant social scene and being close to a big city has a lot to do with. (Penn is also more Greek than Yale).
Weather: Definitely midler than CT weather
Either way you ll do just fine. visit during admit days for both and go with your gut
First of all, congrats, this is extremely impressive. Yale is the way to go. Yale’s undergraduate experience, with its traditions and residential colleges, is impossible to beat.
