Hey my friend asked to be chanced:

GPA- 4.0
Weighted- 4.72

SAT-2230
730-CR
720-M
780-W

A ton of volunteer work
Steady job at golf course
Active tennis player
1 year JV soccer
Great essays
Solid recs

Thanks!

probably rejected until there is some more substance to that volunteer work/tennis playing

i agree. If you posted SAT 2 scores, that would help as well. but so far the chances are slim if your friend doesn't have any other substantial extracurriculars.

720 math II

730 chem

he did over 100 hours this summer the british virgin islands.
tennis is just rec

Sounds pretty similar to me.. do you know about class rank/percentage?

I got in with a 2230 on the SAT, with my two highest SAT IIs only a 740, 750. My extra curriculars weren't outstanding.. and I haven't done any sports. BUT being the saludatorian definitely helped me, so I think a good rank really does the trickk

There are no substantial ECs I see here. So unless your friend did not provide you with all his info, then my head-chopping verdict is DENIED! Sorry I'm so blunt, but I think there are a lot of things missing in this report...

Hey this is the friend of manufreak66. I got in.

I think my EC's didn't hurt me because i was well-rounded and showed involvement and commitment in tennis and community service and in my job. They can't penalize me for not being a star tennis player and not being interested in heading the student government or taking a leadership position. I think if your grades and scores and essays and recs aren't quite there, then shocking EC's can get you over the hump, but if all the other stuff is there, then i think simply displaying that you don't just sit at home and study is sufficient.

o and we don't do class rank so i have no idea what mine was. also manufreak didn't mention academic honors like national merit commendation, maryland distinguished scholar finalist, all 4's and 5's on AP exams

oh, oops, sorry goalkick. Just the info seemed so small. I mean, I'm not a college guide - just another student like you :)

haha I'm not offended. I would be if i hadn't gotten in probably though haha
