UPenn Class of 2018 ED Applicants

I am thinking of applying ED for LSM or SCEA at H or Y. I really like the program but I’m just concerned about how competitive Wharton is.

Stats are on one of my many chance threads. Meh, I don’t even know.

^As someone recently accepted ED to LSM’s class of 2017, after looking at your chance thread you have a really, really good shot of getting in ED. I say this because the most competitive applicants have the same conundrum as you, and most end up choosing to SCEA at HYPSM, making the competition much less intense for LSM and other dual degrees during the ED round. During the RD round, all the deferred and rejected applicants from the more elite schools try for LSM, making it much more competitive. You’d still be a competitive applicant in the RD round, but it would be kind of a crapshoot.

@kbolisetty, Thanks for the comment. I like LSM, but I’m worried about the competitiveness and average GPA there. I’d like to start a biotech company after med school.

^^From what I hear, the average GPA for LSM is between a 3.5 and 3.6, which is actually pretty good for Penn. If you manage to get in, it means that they know that you’ll be able to do well.

@allisunknown If you’re looking at med school, a 3.5 unfortunately may not make you competitive as a med school applicant even if you have a 38+ MCAT. Having looked at mdapplicants.com profiles, a 3.8+ is ideal for getting into top 15 medical schools. I’m a CAS premed applicant, but I’ve talked to a number of Wharton students and have heard that maintaining a 3.8+ with Wharton alone is incredibly difficult.

^ I didn’t say he shouldn’t apply to LSM, just that it wouldn’t be a good idea to lock yourself in before weighing options between all of the schools you get into, since going towards the medical school route that way will be difficult. And yes I agree, there are very few med school applicants from the program. I think an older thread said that maybe 1 out of the 25 students in a previous class ended up applying and getting into med school, which isn’t as large of a sample.

Do any of you guys know how much sway a recommendation from the Fox Leadership program has in getting admitted to Penn? I just want to know if/how much it will help.

isnt it interesting that the supplement is more like
WHY YOU?
rather than
WHY PENN?

its trippin me up O_e

^ Well, they already know everything there is to know about Penn- they know how amazing their school is, and it’s pretty obvious why someone would want to go to Penn. What the admissions officers want to know is, ‘why should we choose you?’, not ‘why do you choose Penn?’

^ Actually, they want to know both.

^ Thanks for the advice 45Percenter  Are you a Penn alum?

^ Yep.

But you’re right that they don’t want you to just tell them why Penn is generally great. They want you to tell them why it’s specifically great for you. :)

Penn is live on the common app!

How are you guys writing the penn supplement?
I have not idea where to start

just started the supplement, not going to details, but im tackling it with a 1st person view from the outside of me. don’t know how it would finish up, but seems like a good starting point for me, and what do u mean by live?

So guys, I am an international student (Asian) and have great grades and extracurriculars… I want to apply to Upenn in E.D. If my family earns less than $30000 per year , how probable is it for me to get 100% financial aid? Does Upenn really discriminates international students when considering financial aid?

^Yes, they will discriminate against you based on your financial need if you are an international student, but no one really knows to what extent. That said, if you manage to get in they will pay for everything given your parents’ income level.

I’m pretty sure financial aid doesn’t cover mandatory health insurance. The Penn plan is something absurd like $3,000 a year, although there are cheaper alternatives for international students.

Hey guys if I’m applying to Penn electronically can I still mail my transcripts in?

What’s the acceptance rate for Wharton specifically?
