Do you think they will consider another LOCI if I send one. I have an update (I got a major award from my school and they only gşve it to one person in the whole school) and I want it to be reflected in my application. But I don’t know whether I should send it as a word document in an essay/letter format, or just write a short update paragraph on email.
No, one LOCI is enough.
There’s nothing like how much you can send and how much not. The Daily Penn told about a guy who got in and he used to send memes to the admission office daily. Now you, on the other hand, just want to send in an update. It is cool. You will have no regrets later. Just go ahead and send whatever you feel like. And I personally prefer emails. But if you want to update it on your portal, that’s completely on you. Again, if i were you, i wouldn’t make it look like a second LOCi. It will just be an email informing about the award and a short additional paragraph stating that I am really looking forward to the final decision. And that i am still really interested in Penn.
But make the final decision your way and don’t worry, demonstrated interest and achievements are always for the best.
Is it always just Thursdays?
Go ahead and send it, it might not help but it definitely wouldn’t hurt! What @aarchi said was a great idea, don’t make it look like a LOCI, just submit it as an update.
My counsellor sent in an LOR to the Penn Admissions email but he instead received a personalized reply from the Dean of Admissions (John McLaughlin) himself. I guess generally the Penn Admissions office replies with the cliche “Your document has been processed” email and so I am looking too much into it. I am not really sure if it’s that big of a deal or not.
My counsellor says that there wasn’t any new detail or anything astonishing in the reply email but he prefers to keep it confidential. All that I know is that he got a personalized reply with the dean’s official signature and of course the UPenn’s virtual letterhead. Does this mean anything?
I personally think it might be a hint because I’m pretty sure your the first one I saw with the dean replying but then it can also be that it was your counselor who contacted them. Is your school a feeder school by any chance?
Umm, not at all. My school ain’t a feeder school by any chance. I guess, not even a single soul has made it to the T20s in the past 5 years. Also, I’m an international so most of the students from my HS end up going to colleges in my country itself (although, these colleges are T10s in my own country). But I don’t think that it has anything to do with it.
Send it… just a succinct memo-style letter. And they want that stuff to go through the portal. Also, address it to your regional AO. They have the list of all AO names on the Penn website.
I don’t know, but the last round went out on Thursday.
Okay thanks!
How did y’all addressed Penn in your LOCIs? I used Wharton in my intro and after that I addressed Penn but then waitlist decisions are school based so I wonder if they care about that at all (not that it matters at this point, just out of curiosity).
Lol, now that you are saying…I went and noticed that I was all over the place.
Penn/UPenn/University of Pennsylvania/Penn Engineering - I have used em all (-:
Hi there! I am an international waitlisted student from North Africa. I just came across this thread, and I found it very intuitive. I want to ask some questions that have been upsetting me lately, regarding financial aid.
-
So, I applied for financial aid, and I know that Penn is need-aware towards international students. However, why would Penn waitlist a student if they know that they can’t meet his need? Does the criteria of waitlisting an international student based on both the academic and financial files or only the academic records?
-
My family’s income is around $70K annually and we have savings, in a bank account and real estate. So, Do I have a major disadvantage or a slight one since I am not asking for full tuition aid?
-
Finally, in my LOCI and financial aid application, I’ve pointed out that I am willing to pay the whole tuition even if I don’t receive any financial aid. Do you think they consider that?
I am so sorry for the length of the question, but it really upsets me since financial aid plays a major role in the admission process.
You aren’t asking for aid so you’re considered full pay. They question is can you actually afford to pay $320,000 to attend if accepted.
And the chances of getting off the WL are slim for everyone.
No, I applied for financial aid. I just added at the end of my LOCI that I am ready to take loans if I don’t receive financial. Because Penn is need aware towards international students, so being full pay increase your chances in sort of way.
Ok I understand. Good luck to you!
There might be an disadvantage if there are two applicants with the qualities they are looking for and one is full pay one is not but Penn definitely can “afford” financial aid that a student that they want needs.
Good luck to you too!
I am really sorry, but I did not get what you meant.
