Hi!
I applied for early decision to UPenn, specifically to the College of Arts and Sciences with a major in anthropology and a pre-med track.
I’m worried my GPA is too low for Penn, weighted I have a 4.5, and unweighted it is a 3.75
My class rank is 35/316 which puts me in the top 11%.
I suffered a bad concussion in the second half of sophomore year which continued to affect me into early junior year, so my grades suffered during those semesters.
My ACT composite is a 33, and separately my highest reading is 35 and a 33 in all the other sections.
I have taken 11 AP classes by the end of senior year, and all other seminar level classes, the highest offered in out school before AP and I have gotten a 4 and 5 on the AP tests I have taken.
I am South Asian, specifically from Bangladesh. I was born there but I moved here (Pennsylvania) when I was four months old.
I am in the gifted program at our school and have participated in job shadowings, a youth leadership program, and a health scholars academy over the summer at Pitt.
I volunteered at the Hospital at U Penn for a summer, am volunteering at another local hospital and help out my mosque with feeding the homeless.
At school I am senior editor and head photographer for the yearbook and have been a part of yearbook since freshman year, and that takes up alot of time. I also am in interact and dupont kids club, two community service clubs, philosophy club,a part of NHS, and I help out my AP bio 2 teacher from last year with lab set ups.
Outside of school I help out a lot with my family, mainly babysitting and driving my younger brother to his practices or school and help my dad get rent from people he rents houses too, I also babysit in my neighborhood a lot and take tae kwon do classes and piano lessons.
Overall I think I am well rounded but mainly worry about my GPA not being the best, especially compared to some of the other kids applying for ED. I also worry that living so close to penn (about 40 minutes outside philly) could hurt me.
Any opinions? Decisions come out this friday.
THANK YOU!
