UPenn Fall 2020 Transfer Thread

Hi everyone, I am in the same boat. I have a red mark around my high school transcript and a red mark around my college transcript as well. I’ve send out both documents in mid march and I haven’t gotten any confirmation yet. I did upload all the unofficial documents, so will my application still be viewed or no? How does the admission process work? Do schools look at all the applications or do they just filter all the applications without required documentations?

@inkplay i don’t know the order in which they look at applications, but I know they look at all the documents you submit in the portal. If you are sure that your schools sent out the transcripts (was it by mail or electronically?) then email penn admissions and ask them if they can find it, if you sent it a while before you submitted your application they may have gotten lost (happened to me with another one of my schools but they found it and attached it to my portal within 2 days of me letting them know). If they still don’t have it, they will just look at the unofficial copies in your portal but will probably request that you send official electronic copies asap.

@inkplay they should mark all the applications as “received” or you’re at risk of your app being withdrawn. Just email them and remind them, I did that for one school and they immediately found the file.

all my materials are in except the mid-term report; I had to upload through the portal because my school is being difficult and not sending on my behalf. So my mid-term report is considered “unofficial” right now… is that okay?

my college report literally shows my winter quarter grades, which was what the midterm report was showing anyways

@covid19sux it should be fine for now, but if you aren’t able to get an official mid term report at all i would email them and ask them to waive it

Decisions are supposed to come out mid-may right? I literally can not wait…

@adfarafd I think they would be out on May.15th by the latest. That’s what happened last year. If you think about it, decisions would be out next next next Friday.

Honestly I’d be surprised if any of these top colleges like Penn release the transfer decisions late. Yes yes the virus has disrupted the process and the office, but now there just working remotely. If anything these admissions counselors now have more time to sift through applications through the comfort of their own homes. I’m guessing they have (zoom) meetings deciding which applicants are potential admits and such.

@axxj12 the virus has disrupted a lot with admissions honestly. I know a few people were mentioning that Harvard may be releasing extremely late, their goal is to get it out by July. I’m not 100% sure of the validity of that statement, but people were talking about it.

This obviously isn’t @ you, but I strongly doubt this. Duke is still on track to release before 05/10, Georgetown is already sending out decisions, and Davidson is releasing tomorrow. The virus may have interrupted the flow of viewing applications, but once that flow was set up through virtual meeting spaces, the entire process can continue unhindered.

i think they’ll do 5/15 for decisions. earlier would be great, but I don’t think they’ll push it back

Apparently its on the main page

That’s for Harvard. This is a Penn thread.

@ivysky ah i forgot to comment to @PixelyPirate to make it direct. it was just a link in response to a comment

@nickde I do agree this is a possibility, though I still think Penn is more likely to release decisions around mid-May than pushing it back.

Hi all. I applied to Penn for transfer and just had a question if anyone sees this. Is it an advantage or disadvantage to be applying transfer from a school that’s already t10? I could see it being an advantage if they put my gpa/accomplishments there within the context of my uni’s rigor and reputation. I could also see it as a disadvantage because they might see someone coming from a county or state school as having more compelling reasons/need to transfer than someone like me. Does anyone have insight on this? Also best of luck to everyone who applied hoping for great news in May!

@transfer20202021 i know people on last year’s thread who had 4.0s and attended a top 20 university but were rejected. i can’t say why because i’m not an admissions officer but it seems as if those who attend community college may have a slight upper hand in this process. just my opinion.

This is so nerve-wracking

rip my odds if so @mill213 thanks for the reply though
