UPenn interview - who pays the restaurant bill?

If I go to Starbucks or somewhere else for an interview, do I get to pay it all or do we split the bill?I dont want to make something awkward.

you just each get your own thing

If the interview insists on paying then let him/her take the bill, otherwise pay for your own.

Demand that he/she pay for you. It shows you’re assertive and don’t take no BS from no one.

If you are going to Starbucks for an interview, I suggest you arrive about 10 minutes early, get yourself a drink , get a table and wait for your interviewer. That way, you can save the awkward moments of deciding who’s paying and the lack of availability of an empty table.

Haha that’s an… interesting suggestion.

He’d definatly remember you then! Haha

my interviewer told the waiter that we would just be having drinks (non alcoholic of course) and then paid for them both when the bill came. it was only like $2, but it was a kind act. i guess it goes to the character of people at penn…

So far, I have had 4 interviews. At each one, when I arrived (I’ve been a little early each time), I found my interviewer already seated at a table with a drink in front of them. After introducing ourselves, they have offered to buy me something. Don’t sweat it. In all likelihood, your interviewer will already be there by the time you get there. Don’t show up too early, but make sure you’re there on time. If they offer to buy you something, then you should let them (assuming you’re hungry/thirsty!) If not, then don’t bother bringing it up. It can only make them feel annoyed that you would be wanting to take time away from the designated interview time to go get something, or feel guilty that they didn’t offer to buy you something. (I think it goes without saying that you want to avoid instilling either one of these emotions in your interviewer!)

Go a few minutes early, get a medium black coffee (it makes you look awesome). Sit and sip your coffee nonchalantly until (s)he comes.

If you go early, order your own drink, and pay for it you expedite this whoooolleee awkward thing.
